JoeHel and MJay - hOW long have you both been non-smokers for? I do like that idea MJay of choosing not to smoke, not being deprived.

I still have this stupid sense of disappointment when I sit down with a drink and suddenly remember that I can't have a smoke with it. It is totally pathetic, but 36 years is such a long time to have a bad habit! I WILL MAKE IT THOUGH - I AM NOT GOING TO BE DICTATED TO BY A LITTLE WHITE STICK!!!!

I've been quit two months today. After 22 years of 30 a day. I started when I was 18 and I'm now 40. I'd love to reach the age of 50 with about as much chance as a non-smoker of having a stroke or heart attack :D

    smoking question:

Why do some people smell like they live in a cigarette factory? I don't know how to say it but you got those that smell of smoke or something. I hope that doesn't come off rude.
I used to live with a mate & his wife who both could have smoked for England but they were fine.

I was told resently that everyone has a smell, English apparently smell are dairy lol

Maybe some people sit indoors and smoke and others go outside? I know that you can still smell smoke on people when they come indoors, but it can't be as bad as sitting indoors being surrounded by the smoke? Also, cigarettes smell TONS worse than roll-ups. My partner and his son smoke roll ups and I don't mind them too much. A good plug-in air freshener can deal with that no problem (and I can buy cherry and vanilla tobacco for them now and again which doesn't smell half bad at all! ;) ) But when someone comes in and smokes proper ciggies - YEUCH! Embarrassing thing is, that's what I used to smoke..

Maybe just different brands then. I always thought that Marlborough smelt REALLY strong compared to Silk Cut...

Some cigarettes have additives in them like ammonia to help aid absorbtion of the various chemicals. That probably makes a difference.

Hi everyone. I have had a cr*p day today generally, but not from a not smoking point of view-thank goodness. I haven't even thought about missing cigs even though my OH has trotted outside for a smoke at least 7 times today!!! It's a bit stressful at work at mo and OH just reaches for the cigs. I just think, right, I've got an extra 5 minutes to go on MSE without him knowing I'm skiving too!!!!! :D I have also got more of my jobs done as well. So I'm feeling all smug. Continued good luck to all quitters and well done to all who are coping even though sometimes you feel it's difficult-you will get through this. You will have more money, you won't smell of cigs and you may well live longer too!!!!

Don't you worry, that all sounds perfectly normal and you will be just FINE.. :D Of course you won't be smoking by the time the course comes round and you will find it really funny when it's howling a gale and pouring with rain outside and your friend will be huddled in the doorway every hour getting her fix. I have been the only one in a group of about 8 of us who doesn't smoke and they were all taking turns to go outside. It was an awful night and I felt so cosy sat in the warm pub without any discomfort whatsoever. The funny bit is spotting when they are getting desperate for a ciggie but they don't want to go outside. They start getting really distracted :rotfl: Bet when your mate finds out you've quit she will wait an awful lot longer than she's used to to go outside. I've noticed its a natural reaction when a smoker is with a non-smoker for the smoker to try and do without for as long as possible so they don't have to show their weakness. :o
