Hello all again just popped back in here to say remember remember the 5th of November, I have stopped smoking today:eek:
Day 12 on Champix and this is the date I have set had my last ever cigarette last night at 11:45pm;)
The first week on Champix was easy, as I was still smoking but I definately noticed reduced cravings, week 2 moved on to the 1mg tablets twice a day and thats when the drowsiness and stomach cramps started for me:eek: I was off work on Thursday and had to go to bed for an hour at 6pm that night as I couldn't keep my eyes open:eek: Stomach cramps and sleepiness continued into the weekend along with Nausia after a cigarette:eek:
I focused on the nausia feeling and only smoked a few cigarettes yesterday today I will smoke NONE and hopefully be smoke free for the rest of my life.
I am hoping the sleepiness, cramps and nausia will subside when the smoking stops, even if it dosen't I can bear it if it means stopping smoking.
Good luck with all your efforts, I'll keep you informed of how I'm doing;)I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
For all of those who have given up smoking, What is the best way.
To go cold turkey or to have help with nicotine? I'm thinking about it as I can't afford it. I would like to know what would be the best way to do it. I have tried in the past on my own and with no support. I lasted about two weeks, then started again.cross stitch cafe #90 UFO's 6 to finish in 2013, and loads of new kits to boot

Cold Turkey is HARD, tried and failed many a time, also tried and failed on patches, gum and inhaler.
Having talked to a smoking cessation professional, she prescibed me Champix, a tablet which switches off your brains craving for nicotine, they have small side effects but so far so good for me. Your GP can give good advice on all methods and prescribe any type of patch or tablet, a bit cheaper than paying RRP for these, although Champix is prescription only.
Good luck which ever method you choose, lots of friendly helpful advice available on this forum from others who have survived the need for the dreaded week;)I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -

Hi catwoman :hello:
From following this thread (and others), I think that the best method is 'whatever works'. Sounds silly, but somethings that work for some don't work for others. You have to try different methods until you find the one that gives you your 'smoking lightbulb moment'.
For me it was Neil Casey's book 'the nicotine trick'. It just clicked with me and I have been happily smokefree for over a year and I am confident that I will never have another cigarette. Other people have found that Allen Carr has done the trick. Didn't work with me. Neither did patches, though others swear by them.
Keep trying. Don't stop stopping and whichever method you choose, you will get help and support from all the luvverly peeps on this thread

Hey...can I join you guys? I'm giving up for the 5th time this year but unlike the other times I have lasted more than 24 hours
....well, 48 and counting
I think the main problem is that I like smoking so even though I know I'll probably die young/get wrinkly/always and forever be skint, I only care when I wake up worrying in the middle of the night. At the moment of smoking it all seems to go away.
And yet....I'm fighting the urge to go outside for one right now BUT I'm still fighting and that's important I hope?
So I'm afraid I'm rabbiting on on here to stop me from racing to the shop!!
What is this Champix you've been talking about? I like the sound of something that makes you feel rough (means it must be working??)
What do you do when you're out and other people are smoking? How do you resist?
Please help me good people! I'm going into a meeting now but I'll log back on afterwards - going to leave my purse in my desk so I have to come back here before going out (pathetic isn't it - tricking myself into not smoking!)
Thanks to all who have gone before for sharing their stories and being so brave!
