Advice on double prams?

Having had two under 2 for a while (many years ago) my top tip would be buy 2nd hand. They really don't get used that much as after a little while they get very heavy to push. Mine was in fantastic condition when I sold it for less than a third of the price brand new0

It's really one worth going to try them out in the flesh - I found the weight distribution so different with lots of them (it's what ruled the City Select out for us as so much of the weight was at the front and we have some very sloped pavements so I had visions of asbo-buggy veering off course lots) and the length on some of them put me off too.
Round here it tends to be Phil and Teds and iCandy Pears (the double based off the Apple chassis) that hit the second hand market, or the Cosatto side by sides (I paid £60 for one of those second hand in good condition but with no raincover) - but the drawback of lots of the Cosatto ones is that you need to really know what you're having since it tends to be the sis and bro ones being sold on - I camped gumtree for weeks looking for a 2 girl suitable one!
Boots have a really decent deal on the buggy we went for as a main - britax b-dual on at the moment from what I hear.
http://www.bestbuggy.co.uk/2011/06/five-tandems-verve-peach-blossom-2011-city-select-b-dual-kobi/ I found to be a very handy set of photos (the whole site is really to see how different combinations of kids of different ages work in different pushchairs) when I was looking at tandems and which one to get to - as I've mentioned - we can't have a side-by-side as our main buggy because of access to the house but have a cheapo one to live in the car.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
Ill def be buying second hand. But couldn't sell my buzz, I love it too much.
I do love the cosatto ones, I just really lie my newborn in a carrycot instead of a reclined seat.0 -
have you looked at the first wheels city twin??? that has a newborn carrycot to face you and seat units that can be rear or forward facing. my friend had one and it was lovely!!

Maybe something like this
http://www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/productdisplay0_10751_-1_197411_10001?cm_vc=RelatedProductAccessoryThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
Those are both exactly what I had I mind!
Now to get searching eBay and gumtree!0 -
I agree with a previous poster about checking the resale value.
I have 16 months age gap between my boys and I started off with the iCandy Peach Blossom. I bought it, along with the 2 footmuffs for about £850 brand new (we knew the shop owner and he gave us a deposit!).
I sold it just before christmas for £500!
I now have the new Britax B-Agile double, and while it doesn't have a parent facing option (unless baby is in a car seat), it is fantastic and by far one of the best buggies I've owned. Got it on sale too from £350 to £315!0 -
Looking from a similar situation have you considered a sling and a buggy board and use your current pram?
If you get a good sling then you can carry the newborn with the older child in the current pram then as they grow you could use a buggy board for the older child with the younger one in in the pram.
I still use a sling for my youngest who's now 17 months old and my eldest hops in and out of the pushchair when he doesn't want to walk.
Much more money saving tooas you should be able to get a buggyboard and a sling for under £100 although you can spend more on the sling if you want to (my favourite cost around £90 new.)
Light bulb moment Feb 2014! Total debt then £17,497.64
Current debt £8121.16.
Expected debt free date Aug 2030 with current plan but I will beat that date, I had to adjust it due to a drop in wages0 -
I have the first wheels city twin and love it. My children are now 1 & 3 and still both use it. It is side by side so a bit bigger for getting round shops, but fits through all standard doors no problem. I love it. I spent a full 9 months researching them, as I didn't want my baby underneath my toddler and I wanted to see my baby but let my toddler face the world.
I bought it second hand, and although I've had lots of use out of it, it's still in really good condition, and I think I'd be able to sell it for the same price I bought it, as it comes with all the extras.
Another one I saw after I bought mine, but the same idea is the Obaby zezu double. Both this and the First Wheels are similar to the Bugaboo Donkey, but at a fraction of the price.
Hope you find something you're happy with x0 -
I had the single first wheels pram for my first two children and would love the double but its too huge to fit in the house so at the moment am using a baby sling and the mothercare mino pushchair.
I also have a cheap double (safety 1st tandem) for second hand of ebay for £25 which is ok BUT the back seat that lays flat is tiny my 10 week old baby is nearly too long for it so am also looking for a decent double pushchair that can fit in oh`s boot and also in the space under the stairs, I miss my first wheels loads lol how sad am I?!0
