Advice on double prams?

Hiya, I know its still really early but I am expecting my second child and I was thinking what to do about getting them round!
My DS will be a year and 2months ish when new baby arrives so I don't think he will be quite ready to leave his pushchair (although I have no idea when that will be)
My current pram is forward facing and now that I've had it - I don't know if I could have a new born without it. Obvouisly DS will be over a year so forward facing would not be needed but is it even possible to get a forward facing/outward facing pushchair at same time. Would DS feel left out if this was the case?
Going to have my hands full to say least. :j

Hi Kayalana
I am going to have 13 months between mine - so currently on the look out for a double pram as well.
This is my favourite so far;

The seats can either face forward or back so they can look at each otherBut.........its £850!!!:eek::eek:

You can get a double buggy with side by side seats where one can face in and one can face out, or both in or both out (bugaboo donkey) its pretty big though but it can be made into a single so may be ideal if you've an older one who will eventually walk.
Or you can go for a tandem where you can have one seat/car seat/carry cot facing you and one facing out (baby jogger city select, Britax b dual 4)
Then there are the type where you just add an extra seat for the older baby/toddler, several phil and teds including the promenade (I like this a lot) a few of the ICandys, Uppababy vista.
Then side by side forward facing out and about nipper 360, baby jogger city mini double, Cosatto do a few too.
I have no idea if any of these are good/bad/indifferent. Just an idea of what's out there xThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
You really need to go try them out - the length of some of them means the handling's really odd, and the weight distribution on others makes bumping them up and down kerbs or going on sloped pavements arkward. Plus then some don't have seat reclines on both seats, or lie flat capability or fold ridiculously large, or require a MSc in pushchair mechanics to fold...
For us with a 1yr age gap - a side-by-side as a main buggy is out of the question because of access to our house being down quite a narrow alleyway, and I didn't want a child in the lower seat to be massively squished with no room like the Phil and Teds type seem to do, plus I wanted a proper carrycot option (mainly in case I end up with another preemie again - just don't like strapping them onto a lie flat when dead dinky - it always looks like one of those A+E neck injury boards!) and the ability to hook a carseat on... the best I could get which was affordable and ticked most of our boxes (doubles always seem to be a bit of a trade off) was the b-dual. It's wide-ish with the big wheels, but not massively so - and you can raise the top seat up to give the bottom seat a bit more room and a bit of a view - plus it has the most incredibly long hoods to stop nosey little misses avoiding having naps!
We also have a second-hand Cosatto to keep in the car and generally abuse walking dogs etc - for an umbrella fold the seats on it are really sturdy and it's well-built (even though I find the slogans on them a bit twee at times)... but like I say - it can't be a main buggy for us because of the access thing.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
Thank you I've fallen in love with that pram but £850!! Maybe Ill get lucky with a 2nd hand one for like £50....People don't know what they want until you show them.0

I had out n about 360 double and i loved it, was very light and easy to push even with 2 in it (23 months age gap). got round shops no problems and plenty storage. it did mean my new born was facing away from me but it has a viewing window in the roof so you can still see them. deffo go and try some out.0

Just a quick comment on expensive prams, check out the resale value. If the pram is £850, but they sell secondhand for £600, that's not such a bad deal and well worth taking into account.NSD May 1/150

Thank you, I took it wrong way at first and thought you were saying a decent pram wouldn't be far from orignal vaule but considernig after a couple years it would be a loss of £250 for the resale which is about same as a cheap pram it would be well worth the money....will certainly think about it but don't know where I'd get £850 from! Got time to save but were in middle of moving house & mortage and its taking everything we've got.People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
I've got a Phil & Ted's explorer (16 months between my youngest) and its been amazing for me, consider with the side by side ones like the nipper you can really struggle to get round shops etc.
ETA my average sized 2.5 y/o has plenty of room underneath, and only goes in there sometimes anyway as she prefers to walk.Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

Looks pretty decent :-) Will have a good google about the others suggested its nice to have someone say they have used it as we did alot of research with our pram even tho it was a cheap one but we hate it ...will be glad to get rid of it.
I envy you studing at the OU I really wanted to do a course but I know what im like I'll sign up and never do it :') so I decided I would do a A level course and *if* I did that I would fork out the money for the OU...needless to say its been sitting on my desk for past 2monthsPeople don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
There is a scheme at the moment called access to success... I'm doing it under that. I don't know how to do links on my phone but have a google.
Where are you located? If you're local to me I can give you a full demo :rotfl:Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o
