grandparent keeping child's money

As you have been told, had your children's names been on the b/s accounts they would have received correspondence from the b/s once they reached the age of 11/16/18, depending upon where the accounts were held.
So it would appear that the accounts were in your mother's name, and as there has been a feud "off and on" for 20 years, your mother had decided not to "hand the money over". Why should she? Were you in her shoes - would you?
Personally, I would be devasted far more by the feud than the money.
This isn't always true.
My ex opened an a/c for our DD, we knew of it but not which bank/building society held it.
We only discovered it was in fact with Nationwide when we ( my DD and I) went into our local branch ( not ex's branch) to open a saving account. Whilst doing this, we was told there was already an account in HER name. Totally puzzled us at frst and took us a few minutes to work out what was happening. Even though my DD was there they would tell her NOTHING about the a/c, we only realised it the a/c opened by ex when I suddenly said oh is it registered to ***** address. The lady said yes. SO I then explained about the divorce etc.
So the account was in my DD name but at her fathers address. She has never once received a statement nor a letter relating to this account.0 -

No, but it still isn't very nice to say that's what you're doing and then renege at a later date.0 -
Must have missed the post where op said the grandmother was saving xmas and birthday money for the gandchildren?? People say things all the time yhe grandmother may have intended to gift the children money she didnt thats her choice her money...
Ott to go to banks to find out if she has set up accounts for there... it screams....GREED...Ignore reality. There's nothing you can do about it.
I have done reading too!
personally test's all her own finds0 -
Have the children set up their own savings accounts for if or when they go to Uni?
Are you saving on their behalf istanbul?
Or were you all relying on Granny's generosity?
Smacks of entitlement that seems prevalent in society now.0 -
Something dodgy has happened if granny was putting money in the kids' names and claiming gross interest, but had no intention of ever letting the kids have the money. However, the OP has yet to state whether the accounts were actually in the kids' names. If that wasn't the case then granny hasn't really done anything wrong.0

If the accounts were in your childrens names your mum wouldn't have been able to withdraw it.
I suspect it was as someone else said... set up in grandmothers name and then it will say something like 'Tee For' ***** (Childs name) underneath. Which means the money is intended for the child but the adult is in control of the account.
OP, you can kiss goodbye to the money, you won't get it unless your mum hands it over. Hard though you clearly feel it is, please move on and support your sons as best you can. Good luck.

This should serve as a lesson for all concerned that you cannot rely on a promise for the future regarding money.
Maiden aunt promises you are her sole beneficiary in her will. Has you at her beck and call and when she dies, you discover she left her money to the cat's home.0 -

That's what you got from my post????????????? How did I say that????
No wonder the OP doesn't want to give any further details, she is being ripped apart like a gazella by a pack of wolves on this thread by some people!
If that was MY child, I would be really upset for them. That is a mothers right and instinct to protect her children. Of course we don't know all the facts, and we never will now....Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0
