Well, thank you for all the responses; especially those that put time and effort into the debate, whether agreeing or disagreeing. And those that just shot off a one or two line insult - tip top advice - THINK MORE!

In answer to some of the posts.

Yes, I do celebrate Christmas, but it is not the end of the world if something arrives late or can be purchased in the sales.

Filling the car isn't "romantic" per se, but when I see the guage registering another 200 miles, it's warm feeling of gratitude.

Have I ever got smiley and excited about a new Hoover - I don't think so.

Sorry Warehouse, some men are thoughtful all year round, but I'd say less than 1/3rd.

Yes, sometimes I am feeling knackered after a day at work, a massage and cuddle in bed without leading to sex, and then being able to drowse into a contented sleep is great: shows care and affection for the woman.

Do I need an overpriced bunch of flowers on 14th Feb to make me feel wanted - Nope! Obviously I am more confident in myself and our relationship than the slaggers off on here.

@ tight scotsman - ha ha ha - take it that was tongue in cheek ;)

@ marleyboy - you are too perfect for words.

Sally you are coming across very sanctimonius about this.

I do not need flowers or presents for Valentines either to know I am loved deeply, or birthday, mothers day or christmas presents even, but some enjoy the day and there is nothing wrong about that if it is important to them.

To state that they are not confident in their relationships because of this is wrong IMO.

You are probably right PoppyOscar, but it makes me mad when people get in a tizzy because flowers didn't arrive on the correct day.

I just want people to think why they react to certain dates like Pavlov's dogs, and pay twice the amount for tat.

When Martin went on radio to suggest "why not do without SOME xmas pressies" it was like a breath of fresh air.

And most of all....I am an argumentative old bint :) best reasons at heart, but I do wonder at those that do stuff, just because they are told to by Hallmark etc.

My god Sally if you have another half I feel sorry for him/her, I bet they spend most of the time as far away from your boring opinions as possible, I think you have never received flowers on valentines day because they probably send them to their secret lover. Over and out, going to take my happy missus out for a slap up meal on wait for it the 18th feb.

Stiggsy - enjoy your meal tonight, better service, better portions, better deal and less elbow wrestling than you would have had 4 days ago. :)

I agree on this point (it was the gender bias I didn't agree with).
I don't like going out when the rest of world is, just because relentless marketing says so.

Why is it we are told to by Hallmark etc? Why do people say this? It's actually the other way around. We celebrate things xmas/valentines/mothers day etc they then make products for us to buy. All occasions we celebrate have been around much longer than Hallmark etc. It was us who decided to celebrate, we've not been told to do it by any company!

    .

Less than 1/3 of what? The men you've known or the population in general?

Either way your post was a massive generalisation made even funnier at your accusation that men lack imagination whilst your own hasn't ventured out of the Stepford Wife era.

Don't you have a kitchen to be cleaning?

Yes, I have a kitchen I should be cleaning, but been at work, so can't be arsed.

Johny (is that really how you spell it?) - don't forget Grandparents Day, introduced in 1990 by Age concern and then jumped on by the likes of Clinton Cards - September time I think ;)
