What makes you envious of someone else’s life?

I envy people who have time. I currently work full time in a job I hate plus have two self-employed jobs that I love and I'm trying really hard to build up into something I can make a living from. This tends to mean though that it's fairly normal for me to be working 12-16 days and pretty much all weekends and still don't get everything I want done or to be able to see my OH/family/friends as much as I'd like.
I know it shouldn't but it annoys me so much to see people posting/talking about their 'busy' day where they had an hour at the gym, went shopping and then watched soaps all night.0

The things that are lacking in your own. Envy isn't about what other people have; it's about what you think you should have, but don't."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

            Success in the workplace.
Beautiful young women in their twenties and thirties (i was one once).
Someone who is self sufficient (as i'm needy).
Everything i'm not basically but i understand ive done nothing to achieve those goals. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I only really envy 2 types of people in life.
1 - People who always seem to be in the right place at the right time for any given situation.
2 - People who have literally no money worries. What I'd do for a lottery jackpot... 0 0

 I agree with this ^^^^.
I don't feel any shame in saying that I envy many people, be it because they have a great job, lots of disposable income, great looks, have opportunities that I don't etc...
I think you can turn "envy" into a more positive "aspiration" if you have the right mindset.0

Never been into the envying game but I do envy my sister's patience, with everyone, including our ageing father, she seems to have a great capacity for letting things not get to her, bit of the opposite of myself. I suppose it's more admiration than envy, I love her to bits and cherish her as a sister. x0

Is it the stuff they have? The things they do? Qualities they possess?
Particularly given that we live in an age of social networking when people’s lives are posted for others to see, what is it that you envy the most?
I dont envy anything about anyone. You only get to see one or two dimensions of peoples lives, even of people who you think of as close friends. The way people portray themselves on social networks gives a very limited view of their life too.
Everyone has their problems and challenges. Dont envy or judge anyone till you have walked a mile in their shoes is what I believe.
That is not to say that I dont look at people and admire something about them. I come into contact with all manner of people through my job. I let people inspire me and motivate me but I am happy with my life just as it is and dont feel envious. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0

Not so much envy people - I'm just critical of myself. There are certain aspects of people's lives that I wish I had, but I wouldn't wish to be them.
Plus sometimes I've been envious for example that my sister could get a mortgage, but now I have one I am not, so I find this a tricky question, because it's ever evolving.MSE Forum's favourite nutter :T0

I used to be envious of some of my friends because they had nicer houses or were in a better relationship.
I now have everything that I could ever want (I am in my late 40s) and so am not envious of any of my friends anymore and am just grateful for everything I have got.
The only people I am still envious of are people who win millions on the lottery.0
