I looked at the Seats when I was looking for a car recently. I too thought the interiors of the Seats were a huge let down and the outside wasn't much better. I thought they looked dated. I like the Punto Grande - a very smart modern looking car. Hated the new Panda, it's like a box on wheels.

I cannot understand how you think that the interior of the seat is a big let down and the outside too! Granted the ibiza is getting on a bit now but as far as quality is concerned its first rate. And that goes for the entire range! All the parts are Audi / VW who are well known for the quality. i also think that they have some of the best looking cars on the road. I maybe a little bias but talking from experience, I have been driving these cars for 10 years and had no problems what so ever. i guess its all a matter of personal choice.

Oops - but then you have seen sense and are changing it. I was talking about the new model which looks very much like the much older model Fiat%20Panda.jpg

Outside the car is middle aged IMO seat_ibiza_award_09_04_05.jpg

especially the curves of the bonnet and rear. Just has no style. Inside it was black and plastic with firm seats and dullness abounding!!

I sense from the thread you are getting maybe a little excited about getting a new Punto and you may be being led by your heart not your head. I can understand that, the thrill of a new car can be great but remember there is no rush, there will still be a deal next week/month/year etc.

Its your money don't rush to give it away, I don't think the deal is good enough.

You should be pushing for £3400 for your part exchange.

You should be paying £8700 inc metallic for the Punto.

3 door diesels with metallic can be had for around the £8100 mark if you look hard enough.

This looks a better car though...

    or this

By the sound of it you won't do anywhere near enough miles a year to justify the extra money a diesel costs over a petrol.

thanks mjr but the ones you linked to are no good as we need a 5 door not a 3 door

if you can find a good deal on that that would be great!!!!

I personally wouldnt buy a new Fiat at all- their build quality is still hit and miss and the dealers are truely rubbish if you get major problems. Plus, they depreciate like a stone.

The break even point is around 12-15,000 miles a year for a diesel, below that and its not worth it. Whilst on paper the extra mpg looks good, in reality it'll take you 2-3 years at least to make up on the list price (over the petrol) and then the servicing costs more.

I'd go older, and bigger for second hand. Another vote for Seats here! I've recently got myself an 04 Leon Cupra R, which with 225 hp really isnt slow, and has the exact same interior as an A3, plus you can buy items such as wiper blades, air filters etc from skoda where they are usually cheaper!

divadee, hope we didn't all scare you off with our conflicting advice....

Hopefully you managed to get the car and you loved it so much you haven't had time to report back because you're so busy driving it...

Let us know how you got on!

You might like to try http://www.fiatsupasaver.com before you do the deal.

They are pretty much THE Fiat people for bargains.

& a frind of ours has now clocked up 9000 miles in her Punto Sport - likes it A LOT!

I'm not one of the Anti Fiat brigade, but can see how much better this car is, to the old model!

The Panda still manges to steal lots of sales from Punto, despite it being a 'cheaper' option !!

just thought i would update you all.

we went for the 1.3 grande punto active diesel in the end.

we sorted out our own finance loan through northern rock at a good rate. needed 5665 in total

    the deal we got was:

£8915 for the car including mud flaps, mats, full tank of petrol, keyrings, and a toy pedal car for the little un!!

3250 part ex for our panda (may have got more privately but i doubt it as costs of selling and also the front headlight housing was broken where i hit a bollard :o so any private seller would of noticed this and knocked at least a couple of hundred off for that. Also cons of trying to tie in private sale and picking up new car etc..)

leaving the 5665 on finance with nortehrn rock over 3 years at approx £171 a month.

The tax on this car is only £35 a year so bargain for that. And with diesel being the same price as petrol at the moment we will save on fuel costs.

Insurance is exactly the same cost so no change there then.

I will post a piccy of my new car tomorrow when i have picked it up!! Even more exciting that i am picking up my car on my birthday :j :D

Thanks everyone for all the advice, but we feel we have got the best deal for us, could of shaved a couple of hundred off going with internet dealer, but then comes the hassle of selling privately and with the headlight fault and selling costs it wasnt viable for us to do this.
