The new Leon is built on the same platform as the Altea, you can liken the difference to that of the Golf and the Golf+. The Altea is taller with more interior space but not tall like a Scenic or C-Max so it remains sporty, especially with the sports suspension pack fitted.

I currently have the 2.0 TDi Sport DSG, the DSG is the revolutionary six speed tiptronic manual/auto gearbox fitted to the the Audi TT 3.2, new Golf GTi and Skoda's. It has 140hp and is remarkably quick, this gearbox actually accelerates faster than the manual version yet still returns 45-50mpg. In gear acceleration is eye opening making it excellent on the motorway.

A friend has just bought an A4 Avant S-Line Tdi and having compared the two even he decided the Altea came out on top, almost the same space, quality, toys and the same power. The price was the clincher, almost 10k between the two.

Finally this engine can be safely remapped for a few hundred quid to produce 185hp and 300nm of torque, this tweak makes it a bit of a giant killer.

Having owned a number of cars owning a SEAT has been a pleasant surprise.

I looked at the Seats when I was looking for a car recently. I too thought the interiors of the Seats were a huge let down and the outside wasn't much better. I thought they looked dated. I like the Punto Grande - a very smart modern looking car. Hated the new Panda, it's like a box on wheels.

Anything that is taller than it has to be is intrinsically not sporty!

Best of luck to the OP, it's you choice, but here's my opinion.
Trading in a car every few years to replace with a new one is the manufacturer's dream come true. The buyer is riding the worst bit of the depreciation curve and then doing that every few years, effectively spending around 60% of the new car value every three years. I suppose if the car is £8K list price then just over £2K per year might seem like a fair cost.

Personally I'd prefer to pick up a car when it's already lost the biggest bit. ie: 18 months old.
    Happy chappy

I agree with you there. I was tempted to buy a brand new car when I saw the Clio for £4995. A brill price for a brand new car I thought, not worth buying second hand. But then I realised it was the Campus model and outdated so would plumit in value I started looking at other small new cars. Somewhere alone the line I was getting lost in the purpose of my car - it is just a nippy runaround to get me back and fro to work and DD activities but you get onto well if I'm spending £6k on a car then I might as well spend another £500 having metallic paint, another few hundred having remote CL, another few to have EW etc....................... In the end I was looking at spending £8k on a car which does less than 6k miles per annum and would be worth just over £6k when I drove it out of the showroom. I ended up buying a 15 month old Fiesta with my remote CL, EW and metallic paint for just £5k by searching internet dealers. My local dealer has the same car for £6.2k

So Divadee - keep in mind why you are buying the car. Is it just a second run around, do you do much mileage or long trips etc? That is real moneysaving!!:D
