Not a good day to be single

I have never been a fan of Valentine's day (And I am now married).

We are going out for dinner tonight but only because we are staying in a cheap hotel (Premier Inn - £19!!!) and therefore it is not practical to make dinner - and we are eating in the hotel restaurant so hopefully not as OTT as other restaurants.

(PS - the hotel stay is because we work 100 mile apart and spend a few nights midweek in cheap hotels every so often, so that we can see each other during the week - it is not an expensive Valentine's Day break).

When I was single I hated it, as part of a couple I still hate it (but as long as we don't put pressure on each other to be romantic its not too bad, we simply relax and enjoy each others company as we do every night we are together).

When I was single, I would get a DVD and some treats, have a bath with candles and simply enjoy some me time.

Well i'm married and yet another year has gone past without a card. It shouldnt bother me but it does.

I'd settle for a £1 card from Tesco as long as he took the time to choose one for me.

  • Better to be single at Valentines than stuck with a complete arze who doesn't believe in all that stuff, slumps on the sofa with his beers, then says quite blatantly, having not bothered 'with that marketing ****',

    'Well, it's Valentines. Don't I get a BJ?'

I don't miss that guy one bit.

Serves you right for marrying the wrong guy! Just cos I came along later has nothing to do with it, you should have saved yourself for me! :lovethoug

I got engaged on Valentine's Day with a special Lottery card. When you scratched it off it said "Will you marry me." My wife started scratching and said there are no cash amounts on this and stopped. She thought it was some sort of joke and I had to tell her to keep on scratching. She was pretty gobsmacked when the message was revealed and so was I when she said yes! :D

I loved the description, did we go out with the same person :D

Agree with what the others have said, better to be alone than in a bad relationship.

However, you don't hear people moaning on mother's/father's day that they don't have a mother/father....

Doesn't bother me and i don't remember ever being in a relationship where we did anything for it anyway.

It does seem to be 'everywhere' this particular year though, coming at you from all sides.

I have also noticed it seems to be a tad one sided in favour of the women - it's all pics of what the fellas have bought that I've seen. Unless of course the blokes just don't feel the urge to take pics of whatever they might have received!

I have never, ever, when a child/teen received an anonymous card from an admirer either. I think I must've hardened myself to the whole thing as a youngster, but even so I dislike anything that gets too commercial.
