Fair point Jpears, is there an aerlingus thread? I did poke around for a while and didn't find anything on it (if not maybe this could be a start for it?). The stickies are about flight delays rather than cancellations and I wasn't sure whether this was relevant to me, I did have a look through the first several pages before posting. That's why I started a new thread, I know from other boards that it's irritating having a load of new threads cluttering things up, I promise I did try to find info before posting. I really appreciate all the help. I think I'll try putting it in the hands of a company to figure out, will report back when I have more info. Thanks again for the help!

Alas, I'm not sure if there is an Aer Lingus thread.
Effectively cancellations are the same as delays. Indeed, clarification for this was that Sturgeon case many years ago that sucessfully argued that delays were the same as cancellations in respect of 261/2004. The airlines had argued that delays were not covered by 261/2004.
In fact delays rather than cancellations probably affect more passengers.

GingerBob - I know it was 2 years ago but did you get the Vueling compensation for the figure you anticipated? Reason I ask is, I had the same response, i.e. "give us bank account details, we'll pay you €xx.xx".

I replied to get confirmation of the amount (it was an overnight delay therefore should be €600) but they then followed up today with a message stating "the deadline to claim has expired because the date flight is 18 July 2011".

Now clearly, 1 June 2017 is LESS than the 6 years time limit, so they are incorrect in this .... however, my suspicion is that they're banking on me not managing to take it to the small claims court in time for 18 July so that the deadline will indeed pass.

Anyone else have a similar experience? Vueling seem particularly incompetent .... but if I were paranoid, I might figure it's more conspiracy than !!!!-up.

Greanep - Vueling DEFINITELY spinning you a line in the hope the 6 year claim (legal) period expires. Assuming you are England/Wales based rather than North of the Boarder.

as an aside...It is the distance to final destination that dictates the compensation amount rather than length of delay. I assume for that amount, this was a delay that caused you to miss a connecting long haul flight (not sure Vueling operate any 3,500km+ flights)
  • Hi all, I've followed Martin Lewis for some time now and would really like your help and advice now I have signed up.
Myself, my partner and our 2 children had holiday in Portugal (stunning) we flew norwegian air, great going out but had our flight cancelled on 1st June, depart time 19.30 We were stuck at airport and eventually the airline put us up in a hotel provided with food for evening meal, breakfast and lunch. We were given 3 different flight times for following day. Picked up at 2.30pm and taken to airport - flew out 8.30pm. Are we entitled to claim compensation and if so how do we do it and what's best way. Any help would be greatly appreciated 🖒

Hi, I'm very confused by all the options and would really appreciate any insight, thanks.
I was booked on Norwegian Airlines flight from Barcelona to London last night at 17:25. They sent me a text in the morning letting me know flight was delayed over 5 hrs.
As this was no good for me, I quickly searched online and rebooked with Easyjet for £200. (The original Norwegian ticket booked months ago was £30).

Arriving at the airport I went to the Norwegian desk where the woman informed me the flight was now cancelled. I told her I'd booked for the 18:00 Easyjet and would be hoping (neigh "expecting" them to reimburse me). She made a note on the system.

I've completed the claims form online at Norwegian but reading around the subject I've really confused myself: I've claimed for £200 Easyjet ticket. 250Euros standard compensation for flights cancelled of less than 1500km distance to/from EU airport. BUT, I've also asked for the original £30 Norwegian ticket to be refunded on a separate screen after I clicked "Submit Claim".

I've had an email reference number from Norwegian acknowledging the claim. But I've read that as I've asked for ticket refund on original ticket, if they refund that then it's F&F settlement and no other claim possible? Also, I've read that because by my good fortune of booking myself a flight on an alternative airline that only arrived an hour after the cancelled one, I'm not entitled to any compensation?

I'm not greedy, so understand if I can't get the 250euros comp, but I really need/expect to be reimbursed for the alternative flights, as I HAD to be back Saturday night and couldn't wait for Norwegian's offer of hotel and rebooking at some vague point in the future.

Also, does anyone know what sort of timescale I'm looking at for an answer from them. I'm out of pocket at the moment through no fault of my own.

Many thanks to anyone who's read this far and can help. (Please feel free to ask any questions for further clarification).

    Cheers
