  • Because the rerouted flight was direct.
I was meant to fly at 8.30pm, I arrived at the airport at 5pm and was given help with luggage by a friend who drove me. Upon arrival I was told the flight was cancelled (this flight had a long stop over). No email or text message.

I was then waiting around airport for assistance for until 10pm ish where I finally went bezerk with staff because they weren't helping at all, just telling me to call a phone line. They managed to get me on a direct flight to my destination which would arrive arrive before my schedule flight was due to arrive. This flight was leaving at 11pm. My friend who helped me was at the airport from 5pm until 10.15pm. What I would like to claim is the 5+ hours plus parking charge. And food.

The airline involved, LATAM didn't seem to know their obligations.

I think it would be easiest to read the legislation and quote the part(s) you think to be relevant to your claim or their obligations here.
  • So you want to claim for food and car parking for someone not booked on the flight, just because either they decided to stay with you or you asked them to stay with you?

At times you just have to have sympathy for those who work at airports during one of the worst storms ever to hit Heathrow. Almost certainly the flight was cancelled because the incoming plane never landed, during the afternoon the nearest airport with winds within limits was in Germany and with no other planes to play with, it is not surprising the flight was cancelled. You arrived at your destination earlier than you would have done, you left within 2 and a half hours of your original time of departure and in your own words went berzerk with the handling agents who had probably been there all day by that stage. I am afraid I would not expect a sixpence from the airline, and if I was writing their reply, it might be far less measured than this comment

Although I agree with most of that comment, I deplore the judgemental tone. This was a business transaction and what's needed is information on what can and cannot be claimed for. By all means say how you feel about it but don't lead with that. I have had extra charges imposed on me at the airport which I considered morally reprehensible so it cuts both ways. This is about legal Rights not morality.

Legally you appear to have no claims at all.
  • My son is on a school trip to South Africa.
Supposed to fly yesterday Manchester to Doha into a connecting flight to Cape Town using Qatar Airways
The flight from Manchester was delayed due to technical issues and left nearly four hours late and missed the connection to Cape Town. He's now in a hotel in Doha and will continue to Cape Town tomorrow arriving over 30 hours late.
Am I right in saying he is still entitled to the £510 (660 Euro) compensation even though he was part of a school party? If so how does he go about claiming or is it the school that claims?

At first glance this delay qualifies for compensation. Do check with Bottonline and EUClaim. It is the delayed passenger who should claim although it would be nice if the school helped them with the paperwork/computer stuff.

Compensation is legally paid to the traveller who has been inconvenienced not the person who paid for the ticket.
