  • Thanks, I have gone back to Delta

If it is possible to see the actual flight time then I believe it was the DL 37 from Seattle to Anchorage on 14th Aug 2016. Arrival time was scheduled for 9.25pm

    Thanks
  • I am confused Seattle to Anchorage has nothing to do with EU Flight delay compensation. Non Eu airline flying from an non Eu airport to a non EU airport. Why would Delta pay you anything in accordance with EU regulations. Am I missing something
  • Hi, just wondering if you can help me regarding a flight cancellation.

My husband and 2 daughters (13 and 10) flew from Dublin to Newark and then were due to get a connecting flight from Newark to North Carolina on JetBlue airlines. About 2 hours before they were due to leave Newark their flight was cancelled due to weather conditions. They were rebooked onto the following days flight and put up in a hotel overnight (that was it, no transfer/meals covered)

As it was an internal USA flight I appreciate the EU regs don't apply but would they be entitled to any compensation?

The short answer is not really.

In the USA, service providers rarely give assistance or compensation when things go wrong, especially if it wasn't their fault. This is because consumer protection laws are generally weak, and are the responsibility of each State. Air travel between different States comes under US Federal authority, so you would have virtually no recourse in US law. You could make a breach of contract claim in the jurisdiction where the contract was made (e.g. England and Wales). However, weather conditions are ECs, so JetBlue would have a good defence. In any case, I don't think JetBlue has any presence over here, so they could just ignore it.

American culture is very strong on self-reliance, so Americans generally don't expect help from anyone else, least of all a corporation. I have been delayed at Newark airport in the summer, due to thunderstorms. Frankly, you were lucky to be given accommodation.
  • We booked a through ticket with british airways(code share amercian airways)from bhx to jfk with a three hour stopover to catch the next flight down to Orlando.
The flight was late leaving Birmingham.so arrived at jfk 1hr 20mins late.we got to the baggage rebook belt 20mins before the flight was due to take off.we was told we had missed it and had to rebook for the next day.after a lot of complaining they booked me a flight with united from Newark 6hrs later.we had food vouchers and a taxi to Newark and caught the next flight.which was 1hr late leaving.so instead of arriving at 1800 in Orlando. We arrived at 0130 7hr30mins later than planned. So my question is can I claim compensation and if so who do I approach british airways who I booked with or American Airlines who operated the flight. And also what delay time can I claim because it was only 1hr 20mins late arriving but it made me miss my connection. This route always seems to run late so wasn't a mechanical issue or weather.
I hope someone can give me some advice

Depending on the reason for delay, you would be due 600 euros each from AA. Read the posts on this thread - lots of peoples experiences reported here.

  • Hi there

My son has travelled with KLM from Canada to the UK via Amsterdam. The first leg of the journey was on time however the flight from Amsterdam was first delayed and then cancelled. He had a delay of 7 hours having been transferred to a different flight at a later point in the day. Is entitled to claim for compensation for the European leg only or for full journey from Canada?

    Any advice much appreciated.

    Many thanks

I have had numerous posts on here since June 2015 and lots of people have said I have a claim. In fact one lady had exactly the same situation and got compensation. I used all the example letters on this site and followed all the proper procedure. I have read the whole Regulations and case law and I am confident I have a case. I have never heard of Botts but I will look it up.

    Thank you

Well to continue with my saga, my solicitor has been sending emails to United Airlines since my last post. They came back in January to offer $100 each travel voucher. We refused, since UA have now pulled out of N. Ireland. My solicitor then emailed them back refusing this offer and advising them we are about to take legal action. Since then they have not replied, despite the solicitor having sent 2 more emails. I have been to see the solicitor and asked him why he needs to email them Instead of just proceeding with court action? He says it's impossible to take court action, as they don't have a UK Base!
Is this true? Has anyone in the past had a successful claim against United and if so can anyone give me an address please.
