It's a material change so should be immediately in theory.
No idea.
It was only a hypothetical.Herman - MP for all!0 -
My premium jumped up when i was off work sick for a while.
Could have been worse though, Because as mentioned above if i was claiming job seekers or similar they would not insure me.
Unemployed people are obviously in a group like people that have been bankrupt. Untrustworthy bunch it seems.
Just an excuse to increase premiums doesnt come into it, Does it?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
As i said this is not for me but just came across this and was wondering why its so expensive for the unemployed to insure.
many thanks for the replies.0 -

About 10 minutes and less than £20 at the end of the year0 -
They have if they're claiming JSA aka Job Seekers Allowance.
Since when did claiming JSA preclude you from being a 'homemaker'. Signing for JSA states that you are available and actively seeking work. You can carry out unpaid work, so long as this does not prevent you from looking for and applying for and accepting jobs.0 -

What you are describing is someone who is unemployed as they claiming a benefit by virtue they're unemployed and have stated they actively looking for work. The unpaid work has little bearing.
If you're unemployed and declare yourself as being a homemaker you run the risk of the Insurer assessing the non disclosure as being "Deliberate" or if you're lucky "Inadvertent" and taking the appropriate action.

Having a voided policy on your record will cost you dearly for the rest of your life on any type of Insurance you take out.0 -
Since the majority of my income came from my partner, being a homemaker was how I earned my living, which is what you are answering on the insurance form. They do not ask if you are claiming JSA.0

They don't ask where the majority of your income comes from, they ask for your occupation which is asked as job title and employers business.0 -
Yes, and when you say Customer Service Manager, Housing Association they say you cannot have Business Class 1 use with that you will need to pick another occupation from our list. So it is all arbitrary!0

The vast majority of Insurers will and do allow personal business use for the occupations you describe. If they for some reason they would not allow class one use for these occupations it's a business decision by the Insurers not to offer cover. It does not mean you can lie to them to get around it.
Insurance is a contract based upon Utmost good faith, if you miss leads the Insurers they can and do look into the non disclosure.
Apart from the risk of a claim not being paid, you really do not want a void policy on your record. It can make it very difficult to obtain any class of insurance for the rest of your life including Home, Life and vehicle insurance0
