All the time that I have been unemployed, I still say that I am an accountant bookkeeper, because that is what I do, and I could well do temporary or contract work at a moments notice.
What a ridiculous situation, having to pay £100's more simply because you are between jobs, as if that reflects on your ability to drive the same as you did before.
Insurance companies will make up any excuse to get us to pay more money.

Its based on statistics. As i said earlier.

Unemployed people must statistically be a higher risk.
  • Its not for me, a friend was telling me about it tonight and I was interested to know why? its not that they will be on the road more than the employed - using their cars to get to and from work thus increasing the risk of accident.
What's to stop someone creating a ltd company and becoming a director and putting themselves down as employed?

Do you know how much work that creates?!

    Really?
Have you any data to back up this ridiculous statement?
  • I read somewhere that unemployed people are the ones who are watching day time tv and see all these compensation adverts, so are more likely to make a false claim for things.

I have a friend who is unemployed, but he says he works when it comes to uinsurance as he refuses to pay the extra £400 per year for being unemployed (even tho he us actually his mums full time carer)

Unemployed people less likely to maintain their cars properly, as said, more likely to make dodgy claims as they're short of money or may in fact be drug dealers or something else sinister.

OP are you qualified as something? I mean, I've heard of people putting down profession as Doctor or something but still being able to put 'unemployed' thus kinda showing you're just out of work rather than long term unemployed and possibly involved with dodgy things etc. Ok Doctor is a poor example as we have a shortage but you see what I mean.

If you're made redundant halfway through your policy are you supposed to tell them straight away or at next renewal?

What does it say in the policy booklet?

It's a material change so should be immediately in theory.

I had a similar problem last year.

I eventually went with Prestige Insurance as their premium wasn't increased due to my being unemployed (was unemployed for a short time in-between jobs)

Worth a look , may help.
