and they say they are offering "unlimited" downloads and they say they hate when other companys use unlimited when they have caps - this is the same - totaly hypocritical!!!

I CAN download more than 3gb within the alocated zone, and no, not with downloading dodgy movies - but downloading legit movies on legit p2p like 4od website and sky by broadband.... also updates for all the software i have, and windows. downloading trials, plus more....

Simple rule is though, do big downloads during the night :)
Never do things tomorow when you can do them today.

Well yeah, I agree with that. But on a 10mb (soon to be 20mb) connection, the limits in place on that tier are ridiculously low. I could download some Vista and Office updates, listen to some radio, and I'd be capped pretty soon.

Downloading at max capacity on a 20mb connection is less than 30mins of download time.

well they havent introduced any set amount you can download a month & dont think it'll happen, however like the previous poster said if anyone wants any big downloads just do them at night!

In my area everyone is vm as we had this installed when flats were built in 00. No bt lines were installed although exchange is 15m away on the other side of the road, so trying to get to 75% of my 10mb connection is impossible anyway.

I dl alot and that is the reason why i pay alot of money for my connection like others do, the point isnt what you dl. I dont want to listen to the radio, watch youtube, play poker or anything else when they say, i want to do it when i want.

For the people moaning about it will help us surf when we want to surf does that mean you will be charged more and i will get a reduction in price during peak times? no i dont think so.

and you'll struggle to do all of the above on a 5mb connection? doubtful.

Im with virgin media. I pay 35pm for the "Top" BB XXL or whatever it is. My speed was origionally 10meg with an average speed of around 10-11meg (V.Good service) now we have been "upgraded" to 20meg and a few speed tests over the last few days have shown me speeds varying from 0.5meg (during the afternoon) to a whopping 1.5meg in the evening. I spoke to a nice chap today at CS and he informed me that it was my pc,router,me ect ect anything but the truth !!!
I am not a "newbie or wet behind the ears" when it comes to pc's and the like. I know my way around them so to speak. So when they tell me lies it can be/is fustrating to say the least. The CS i got through to was obviously outsourced and the chap was def reading from a script. It even went as far as the chap spelling out the words rather than actually trying to pronounce the words. I actually felt sorry for the bloke (Not his fault) and told him hey its ok i will call back if i have any more problems. Too right i will lol. I will be onto retentions 1st thing in the morning. An absolute joke. Im getting 1/5th (actually a little less) of what im paying for and 1/10th of what they say im getting lol.

Let us know how you get on. We connected to VM on Saturday, supposedly on the 10mb service (not yet upgraded to 20 in this area) and so far, speed tests at various times day and night are not showing anything over 1.5, which is really disappointing considering we made the decision to pay the higher tariff hoping we would get at least above 10 following the upgrade.

I too am with Virgin media and pay £35pm for the so called XXL package. The speeds are hopeless, surely what they are doing is illegal. If we are supposed to get 10meg then we should be getting speeds in this region, especially as we are paying for it. At the moment you get a fresh 10meg connection at the start of the month and as soon as you hit there 4gb download cap you go to a 4meg connection for 4 days. Only wish there was another reliable provider that I could change to. https://www.bethere.co.uk
sound very good for £24.99pm they offer 24meg dload speed and 1.3upload unlimited usage, and for £40pm 24meg dload and 2.5uploads unlimited for £40 would change like shot if they provided a service in my area. Southerners I speak to tell me they are excellent

    Don't hold your breath.

There's nothing worse than a poor service that doesn't work & being given run-round by Tech Support/Customer Service & all the other idiots.

Problem is I don't think cable network is up to the job, as they are not investing, so have considered getting a BT Line & going back to ADSL Broadband through BT line.

Ps: I have a number of threads dealing with poor speed due to Congestion on NTL/Virgin Media.

A few of the previous posts talk of the current 10MB broadband speed doubling to 20MB, but what about the rest of us? When I signed up to the 2MB broadband in April, I was told that my speed would be doubled to 4MB in May. They better get a move on as we're nearly in June!

I remember a few months ago reading that all 3 BB plans were being doubled this year, but when we were looking at which one to take I did a lot of searching and could no longer find any mention of the other lower packages being increased in speed, everywhere I found only mentioned the XL one. So I figured they must have just scrapped that and decided to just do one
