Virgin Media offically "Throttling" users

They still say there are no plans to cap downloads (which is different to throttling of course) . ALL adsl ISPs throttle and cap , they just dont tell you about it until they feel like it . VM now apparently have an "Up-front" policy , if you believe it .

You could consider them to be Hypocritical as only a while ago they were criticising other ISPs http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/04/05/virgin_unlimited/

You have chosen to miss out the possible hypocritical part to which i was referring, i quote.

I dont see how its hypocritical . VMs BB is still the closest thing you will get to being "unlimited" , There are still no major download limits/caps (within reason) . Just if you are downloading a lot during peak hours it will take longer . Throttling and capping are 2 TOTALLY different things .
The point of VMs critisism was that ADSL ISPs were advertising their BB as unlimited . People were downloading 40-50gig or above and the ISP sent them a nice letter saying they were capping them .
Have yet to hear from anyone capped on VM cable BB . Several people have already taken their ADSL ISP to court over the unlimited claims , and the ISP has defaulted , as they probably dont want to defend an unlimited service that is actually limited .

Yes, they are hypocritical.

Clever marketing is criticising others for restricting service, when they have decided to do it themselves & then saying it's not the same, there is no problem.

They're trying to get one over on other ISP's & the customers.

There are 2 ways that i know of around traffic shaping.
1 is free but still slowish and the other costs me around £8 a month but i can download at max speed.
Even though i live in a village i can see the mini exchange from my frontroom window and on a 8MB line i get around 6.5MB down which does me.

This is bullsh*t. Ive had 10MB since it was started and always got what was promised. Now i find out that the even better 20MB has rules and restrictions and if i download so much im gonna have my speeds dropped for 4 hours? !!!!!!!! In a day i can sometimes download up to 60GB. That includes xbox games, movies, pc games, tv shows, documentaries, and even blue movies. So if i downloaded all this on 10MB, what im basically being told is that when i upgrade to 20MB that ill have faster speeds but i will be paying for LESS downloads? This is a joke. If this goes through Virgin can screw themselves cos it aint worth it.

Good luck finding an ADSL ISP that'll let you download that much in a day , every day . You'll find yourself getting capped before long . ALL ISPs feature throttling and capping of some sort , most just dont tell you about it until you break their "rules" . VM still has unlimited downloads , there is NO limit on how much you can download , just your speed is affected at peak times if you're a big user .
Best thing to do now will be to try and download outside the peak times . Or you could stop downloading illegally :rolleyes: After all its people like you that are ruining the network for everyone else by congesting it .
