Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
CARRIEDVOICES i wish you luck in finding a adsl suppler that meats your neads and it mite be time you look at the real world of broadband in the uk ,we have capps, limits and FUP's and the word unlimited is just sales talk now adays, you will not find any one like telewest/ntl(virgin media cable)that will allow you to download all day and night at full or 1/2 speed.even at 5mbs it's faster than most people on adsl can ever get
and yes i am on cable and have in the past downloaded a lot more than you until i saw sence and got bored with it.
there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff

I don't see this as a problem to be honest. I'd much rather they take steps to ensure I can chat, browse the web, use VOIP, and send e-mails in the evening than allow the network to crumble under the strain of the big downloaders.

If there's something big I want to download, I'll just do it overnight or during the day.

I think it's a disgrace. A website was set up over the weekend with a petition against this being introduced at https://www.sn2ts.com. Online petitions aren't everybodies thing, but for the sake of clicking a button and signing your name, it's worth a shot.

If the plans aren't dropped, I'll be going elsewhere for my broadband.

    But where though?

No where comes close to Virgin in terms of speed. I'm trying my hardest to empathise with some people here but if you're downloading in excess (like the one chap of 60gb) then im not suprised Virgin are putting traffic management are in place. No one needs to download what is technically illegal material in the first place, let alone 60gb's of it.

But if I want to stream TV/Video On Demand, or listen to streaming audio (ie radio stations), that isn't taken into account by VM. They assume I'm downloading illegal material, when it could be legal audio or video, or X Box 360 related updates, or any other legal material. It's a joke.

They can track where you've downloaded quite easily so they have no need to assume. But i highly doubt that what you're downloading is of the legal nature :)

But are they doing that? Not from what I've read/heard/been told.

No, but thats not my point, my point is people who are downloading 60gb a day cant be suprised that traffic shaping has begun!

Well yeah, I agree with that. But on a 10mb (soon to be 20mb) connection, the limits in place on that tier are ridiculously low. I could download some Vista and Office updates, listen to some radio, and I'd be capped pretty soon.

Downloading at max capacity on a 20mb connection is less than 30mins of download time.

Now, for good measure, let’s throw conspiracies of censorship into the mix. :D
