So many exciting plans for MFW on this board. I've always wanted to live in a barn conversion Al, but since you're in my favourite part of the country I would be happy just to holiday there.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0

CathT - barn conversions are cold and cost a blooming fortune to heat I live in one - its an old brick built barn and if we had known what we know now we would have done substantial rebuild/insulation work at the outset, but too late now when project finished and we are left with a very cold hard to heat building. Love it but it is cold!Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -
A barn strikes me as a really rubbish building to make cosy, you would definitely want industrial insulation from a very early stage in the build. Haha 'build', too much Grand Designs methinks...0

The barn conversion idea stemmed from New Ywars party at neighbours. They converted a barn and it is cosy and stunning.
I think they are problematic with crazy high ceilings and big windows.
There you go Cath you can come to us on hols when we move.
