My car has just had MOT and needs some work doing on it. I cannot manage without my car so need to get the work done. My emergency fund was wiped out with repairs to house when bad winds hit last month.

Think we have all been in this situation SSH. It looks like we are going to have to reduce our payment in July. I have just paid out £150 for repairs and new tyres on my car which has used up most of my emergency fund, and now OH's car needs substantial work. The MOT is due next month and a bit fell off it the other day! It was some sort of cover under the engine which has to be replaced to stop water getting into the electrics. Unfortunately we have to have a car each as we work in different areas with different hours.

On the plus side we managed to get the lawn mower working again ourselves but the hair dryer is starting to make funny noises now:(

Havnt posted on here for a few months, mainly due to work commitments & other financial drains that have basically wiped out any spare cash we had put aside, so its been a very stressful time.

Car cost us £500 over Christmas, and a further £600 thanks to a snapped road spring that took out both sides, bent the drop links and then tore chunks out of the brake lines / brake calipers :(
Work has been quiet for Mr 2Spicy and he has been moved onto a 3 day week & is now "at risk"

Even though were past the half way point, its not all downhill, and the last few months have been more of a struggle than usual.

Family Shopping even at Asda was hitting the £100 a week mark, this has now dropped to £60 with the opening of a Lidl and Aldi's close to us, although I still cannot remember the last time we had a nice roast or a nice chicken.

On the plus side, last years compost bin has yealded some great compost and the vegi garden is flourishing

    Hi again,
I'm still trying to get my DMP set up, have posted all my letters but seem to have trouble getting a basic bank account sorted!! Applied for one with Ulster bank (in NI) but paperwork taking ages to come through, and now I'm panicking that I've sent letter sto my creditors (but not my bank yet!) and can't actually get a DD set up yet for payments. Just looking for some advice on this... must it be a basic bank account I open? or can I open a normal current account with someone else but just not have an OD on the account? I was looking at possibly going with Nationwide, but their basic account doesnt allow withdrawals outside UK... and usually Ireland falls under this category even though its not really that far for us and we would be traveling there on the odd occasion, so was considering their current account instead. What do you think?? getting myself in a pickle over this when all I want to do is get all my DDs switched over and salary!!

Hi Still skint, I can't answer your question but I am at the same stage as you with Payplan so just wanted to wish you luck o your new journey.

Thanks and good look to you too.
I asked payplan what I should do in the meantime and they said nothing. They had already contacted my creditors and had received replies from all but three.
I then got a call from someone else at payplan suggesting I should go down the IVA route, which I turned down.
Hope that doesn't mean that all my creditors rejected my offer.
I'm trying to be positive but I'm up to my neck in it !

A credit check is carried out when you apply for a bank account, so depending on that, you may or may not be accepted for a normal current account, even without an overdraft.
I tried, and failed at getting a normal account so tried for Nat West basic and got that straight away, all done online and very easy to set up. Only problem is a restriction in where I can withdraw cash, which could be a good thing, but I want to withdraw what I need for groceries etc on each payday, luckily I can do post office withdrawls, or it'd be a 15 mile round trip just for some cash!

At the end of the day, if you are happy with going the DMP route, stick to your guns. An IVA was offered to us, but we didnt want that as it would have certain implications regarding Mr Spicy's Job.

    Hi AnnM48,

I had the same issue as you. I went for the Co-op account initially but after a few days i called them and they advised that they still hadn't recived anything, so i started panicing as i wanted to get it all up and running. So i went with a Natwest Basic account aswell, set up within minutes and had a Acc number and sort Code straight away so i could get the ball rolling with setting up new DD's and getting my salary transferred.

Well done antonic!!!! You are an inspiration, it is good to see it is possible to end a DMP.

My journey is still in it's infancy. It is quite strange how different the various banks behave when they receive a DMP letter. I heard from coop, capital1 and LIoydstsb immediately but nothig from b4rclaycard. I have just phoned them and they have agreed to freeze interest for us. Phew!

I am over my limit on b4rclaycard so need to find £79 to put me within credit somehow. Not sure but I am presuming I will be charged for being over limit??

    Hi Poohbear59,

Barclaycard were one off the first creditors to contact me but i know other members have had issues. In my initial letter they sent me they advised that all interest and charges would be frozen which was handy as i was over my limit but about £20 and i wasn't charged but now my first SC payment has gone to them im back within my limit.

    Good Luck though :)
