How often do you wash your towels?

I have 2 large towels and several hand towels for hair washing and hand drying. Then two sets as sometimes I have vistors and even then they seem to take up a huge box under my bed! I use mine probable for best part of a week. If you only have two sets each then you cant use them up more as will take best part of 2 days or so to wash and dry in between.
If the family really want a fresh towel every day maybe give them a small hand towel it will take longer but take far fewer space in the washing machine!0 -

That's what I tend to do, and it does seem to keep the clutter down. I am quite ruthless though. Good job too, as OH can be like you and needs some persuasion to get rid of stuff.
What makes it worse is, when that day comes along when it does come in useful and i know i've got one of those somewhere, ...... I can't find it and have to go out and buy another.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

One of the easiest ways to save money is to do less washing. We all have our own bath towels in different colours and just have 2 each which get washed and changed a couple of times a week. Getting my ten year old to bath twice a week is hard enough - never mind each day - so his probably could last longer!
My eldest has a high bunk bed and I keep saying I will loop some ribbon on his towel so he can hang it on his bed post to dry - it might encourage him to not leave it on the floor.
Handtowels I am a bit more fussy about and these get washed pretty much daily. I think my kids are always in too much of a rush to wash their hands properly and most of the grime gets deposited on the towel!!
I would use up any towels which are getting a bit threadbare as cleaning cloths and the decent ones I would pack away somewhere.0 -
I would not part with those towels, but I would buy some of those vacuum bags from Poundland and put them in there and store away. There is only the two of us, but I put out a fresh hand towel every day and change our bath sheets twice a week. I
As someone else mentioned animal places really do need towels desparately and we use our old towels for drying down our dogs and also the horses. I use the old hand towels in our tack room.Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

I've been there! Or worse, forget I have it stored somewhere, so go and buy another one!
But...I have found that clearing some of the clutter does make it far easier to store things that actually will be used again, and find them! lol. I'm talking putting summer clothes away for winter etc.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
I couldn't even think about downsizing.
I'm a terrible hoarder and i've got cupboards and drawers full of stuff i never use. Even the loft and garage are packed out with 'things' that i find hard to throw away.
I can't help but think they'll come in useful one day.
See I a bit of a horder too, that's why an hour in I'm onto 5 bin liners sorted ready to go lol
Thanks everyone deffo the way forward x0 -
Once a week
You only drying a clean body with it so it can't be that dirty!!
Completely agree with this...
I am not very green person (I recycle as I am told, but I don't go over the top in "green" issues), just normal every day person but even I think that washing towels every day after 1 use is massive waste of water, electricity, money and God knows what..0 -
Mission completed! Thank you for inspiring me!! 2 boys bedrooms sorted and the bathroom done!!3 bags for charity,2 bags of rubbish and a bag for the local animal rescue!
Thanks to who posted about that, I have loads of old quilt covers etc that aren't good enough to give away and now a pile of towels too. Our local animal rescue was burnt in an arson attack :-( so they will probably need them all the more

I wash mine around twice a week or, if they are a bit minging, more often. Me and OH don't have our own separate towels - if i tried he'd still use mine. We've been married 20 years without any issues around that so i think it must be ok.
Kids have a separate bathroom and DD tends to get a clean towel every night when she showers - but I don't blame her cos she wouldn't trust DS not to use hers and god knows what might be on his when he bothers to use it (12 year old - say no more!).
People can go a bit overboard on the whole clinical claenliness thing, I think.I wanna be in the room where it happens0
