How often do you wash your towels?

We're a family and we share our germs along with everything else so it doesn't bother any of us to share towels. We don't use facecloths as I think hands and soap are more hygenic anyway, we have one hand towel which gets changed every day and a couple of big bath towels which get changed twice a week. We all have towelling dressing gowns to put on after showers though so we don't actually use the towels to buff every last part dry, just to mop off the drips. We also have a heated towel rail and towels do get hung up there before the user comes out the bath room...they don't get dragged round the house and left in bedrooms. Also I have turbitowels for the three of us with long hair..there are three in use at any one time and they get changed once per week. They're small and thin and no more bother to wash than a small hand towel. I save all the towels up and wash them at a 60' wash once I have a full load and it's a good drying day.
Oh, and I'm in charge of the towel stocks...the linen cupboard is at the far end of a very long hall and a chair sits in front of it so it's a slight effort to get in and find a clean towel, which is why no-one does it but me. I can imagine if there was a cupboard full of fresh fluffy towels in the bathroom they'd get used up a lot faster!Val.0 -
As for the amount of towels - we have 1 each on the go. We have about 6 in total (2 of us), either of very light or dark colour, light for me dark for OH so we remember which one is whos, and I always wash them with whatever colour wash is going in... always at least once a week is dark, once a week light.. this way I don't have to worry about collecting the same colours..
We hang them over banister, spread well:-) Best place for them, they dry properly then.
tea towels go in as they seem like needing it, they go in with any wash (we also have dishwasher so don't dry dishes with it, it is in use only for me to dry my hands after washing them after cooking or something). We both only spend evenings at home so we don't use it much.
hand towels - again as and when they look like it's needed, probably 2 a week, more if more people in the house.0 -
Both me and DH have our own towels, and woe be told him if he uses my towels instead of his own ones..
.
This made me laugh!! I caught DH in the shower a few weeks ago, using MY pink bath lily!!!!!:eek: He couldn't understand why I went a bit mad at him..........and he'd been using it a while, YUCK!!!! then, a couple of days later, he put in a request for some 'manly' shower gel!! I was like '....you mean , to use with your pink bath lily????..' :rotfl:
Honestly! Oh, and, yes, it's now his bath lily, I went out that day and bought me a new one!!
Anyway, towels.....muslin cloths are used once, hand towels changed every day or two, bath towels once a week - we all have our own, dried on banisters after each use. Then the kids take theirs to swimming on a Weds, and they get washed when they come home.
I have more than enough washing as it is, without making more!!!!0 -
we have atowl each. I wash them once or twice a week.0

Bath towels whenever necessary, sometimes it can be a day or 2 and sometimes a week. We don't have an airing cupboard so they just hang on the bathroom door or bannister in summer or radiator in winter. We've never had separate towels but have always had towelling bathrobes, a habit started when I had to keep the kids warm after swimming when I had 3 plus me to get dressed.
Hand towels last one or two days, tea towels the same.
Towels last a lot longer now car mad son has left home
One thing that drives me mad though is the kids seem incapable of either hanging the towels up or folding them neatly on the radiator.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
Whenever they're dirty. Probably every other day, or so?Smile, why not.0

Hand towels get changed every day (first thing in the morning) and the bath sheets twice per week) it's just the two of us. Tea towels everyday and the dishcloth well I can go through three or four a day. I put them straight into the machine then when I do a towel hot wash they get done then, put out on the line to dry and folded up and put in the basket underneath the sink to be reused again. I have about a dozen dishcloths.
The dogs have their own towel and bedding wash separate
I usually do two washes a week of towels, they are either white or cream so it doesn't make any difference with the colours! They get washed together on a 60 degree hot wash with biological powder - and I know they don't recommend it but I do use fabric conditioner as well!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

I use a towel about 2 or 3 times, when I've dried off I sling it over the door to dry out and it is fine for the next day.
I don't get the whole ickiness about using a towel that has been used on someone else's bits - once you come out of the shower those bits will be just as clean as any other body part surely?Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0
