BMW or Audi
Hi guys, im interested in getting an audi a5 new shape or bmw 5 series new shape 10 plate onwards. im not all that clued up on cars but my only concern is the Rear Wheel Drive aspect of the BMW. People see them as a negative(struggle in snow, iffy when wet) any thoughts on them Thanks

There's a lot more positives to be said for RWD in terms of a driving experience than negative. Unless you drive like a prat you'll have no problems with rear driven cars.0

If you can afford one of these cars then you can afford to buy a set of winter tyres. BMW do a really good winter tyre swap/storage scheme. The man without a signature.0

Depends if you just want a nice excutive badged car or something that drives well. Personally I always founf Audi to be slightly on the dull side.
Worth considering the offering from Mercedes too. You might find somethign good in their range and get a bit of a badge battle with the dealers. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
OH's A5 Sportback goes back in about a month, we used to travel a lot and it was great - comfortable etc and carries quite alot of stuff with the seats folded, downside it is dull to drive and visibility is questionable when parking etc. Never had a 5 series but a number of 3 series and wouldn't bother again after last one, fantastic to drive, very involving but extremely uncomfortable. If its for short journies and its mainly just you ion the car BMW would be my choice out of the 2, if for long runs A5 without question. Neither have been ultra reliable but not bad. Audi 2.0 diesel is very efficient.
Winter tyres would make the BMW but we never had problems with good ordinary tyres.
Merc - no thanks OH got well stuck in the snow.0 -
Test drive both and choose.
Both would have traction control and both would give you a hard time if you tried driving on ice.
I have a E91 BMW and the recent snow gave me no problems on normal tyres."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
I had a work 08 plate A4 for 2 years, 2.0 litre diesel from new and can honestly say it was absolute pants to the point where I would never consider an Audi again.
2 years, approx 38,000 miles
1 x Gearbox replaced
1 x steering rack replaced
entire air con system replaced over several months, bits at a time
1 x wheel bearing replaced
rear discs replaced
Main dealer was useless at one point I got the car back with the passenger seat belt anchor buried inside the console!
I appreciate not all Audis are like it and i'm sure someone will post to say they have one that has done 200,000 miles without a problem etc, but I consider my fingers well and truly burnt

Don't like what I have to say? Call me on 0800 KMA;)0 -
I tried some Bmw 3 series coupes before I bought my Audi.
The Bmws were nicer to drive but the Audi has an interior to die for.
My mind was made up by the terrible Bmw dealers.
Unless your'e buying new,they don't give a monkeys.0 -
Why a BMW or Audi?
