what are my rights pls. dont want to get the police involved

I would be grateful for some serious advice please as this i fear this will get out of hand.

I drop my child off at school and then park my car legally on a public road in maidenhead about 8am. I also ensure that my little car does not obstruct driveways. However the first day I parked there this women banged on my window i thought the glass was going to break and started questioning me aggressively about my parking on the road. The next day the husband stated that he would take my number plate and report me. Since then they have been making a point of staring at me as I go from and to my car. Yesterday however husband came out in his dressing gown and moved his merc on to the road so i parked further down. he then waited for me to pass to shout at me whilst stabbing his finger at me stating that he took exception to me parking on HIS road and that he wishes that something would happen to my car. They are making things very unpleasant. I dont want to get the police involved is there anything else i can do?

Why don't you want to get the police involved? That is exactly what you should do! These people should not be allowed to get away with the aggression and intimidation - report them.

The question is: are you parking illegally? If you're not, there's nothing the residents can do about it - apart from intimidating you, which is why they are doing it.

It's a test of your nerves, but if it's not controlled parking you have every right to park there.

honestly? I'd park the car somewhere else. Of course that couple are trying to bully you, but personally I prefer a more pleasant calm start to my day, so I'd just avoid the confrontation by removing myself from it.
  • buy some small stickers which say "this vehicle is monitored with 360degree CCTV.."

I'd also point out the little disc in the bottom left corner of your windcreen which gives you the same right as them to drive and park on the roads.

I'd be tempted to buy a bigger car and park in the same space.

Or even an older diesel and park there an hour earlier with the engine running for a while..

If you are parking legally, on a public road and not causing any obstruction, then you are well within your rights. Have a read of the highway code and make sure there is no legal reason why you may not park there just to make sure (eg >15m from a junction, etc) Why are they bothered? Are you making it difficult to access a driveway or something? If they are being aggressive then it may be best to speak to the police (on the non-emergency number) and get their view - at the very least you're registering your concern should there be an incident in the future.

Assuming it is definitely legally parked in that spot, I'd tell them ''You don't own the road! It is perfectly legal to park here. Write to your local MP if you don't like it......and if you bang on my window again, I'll gut you like a fish!''
(you don't have to use that last sentence I guess....)

Maybe take a couple of big male friends with you when you drop your son off, and video the the pair of bully's if they are brave enough to give you anymore abuse, probably a pair of miserable old so and so's who probably think they own the whole street and not just one house

i would do but there a few places to park.

I agree this man should not be allowed to be aggressive to me. However he is just the type of middle class male that the police will side with and i am a single parent trying to get through college. The world is not a fair place.
