Well, Tricks, it's like this.. Tesco, Aldi, Findus, Dunnes, Burger King, ASDA, Sainsbury's, Iceland and whoever else weren't submitting their products to an independent organisation for certification which goes above and beyond the statutory food stuff.
I believed Tesco when the pack front told me I was buying plain pork loin steaks and was horrified to see they were only 89% pork and had three additives so we quit buying that stuff.
I'm not saying organic food is perfect, that it's healthier than conventional food or that it's less fattening. It does contain far lower amounts of chemicals, it doesn't contain GM or come from animals fed on GM stuff and it is more traceable.
Whole Foods Markets in the USA got caught out by supposedly organic food from China that wasn't but personally I wouldn't buy that because I wouldn't trust it.
This particular food fraud is getting bigger and bigger. It's been uncovered because the Irish FSAI used a new DNA test that isn't validated in UK yet.
Compared to conventional food there's so little in UK that it's probably not worth bothering with a huge scam if you're a crim. The US organic market is much bigger and worth billions.0 -
I think you might be missing the point Ed..
it doesnt matter what is on the label, or what certificates the product/company has, you cant trust companies..
like I said earlier, there were so called organic products which when tested had more nasty chemicals and banned ones, than a normal one ( relating to the organic garlic bulbs a few years back)
All products/factories are tested and inspected, regardless if they are organic or notWork to live= not live to work0 -
None the less, Dr North's point about more 'organic' chicken being sold in London alone than is produced in the entire UK needs some explaining. He is famous for not making-up claims.
My own view is that organic certification of imported products is likely to be as reliable as any other kind of certification of imported products - ie patchy and potentially fraudulent.0 -

Unless you grow and rear 100% of your own food, including the feed given to animals, then you're dependent to some extent on the food chain. Like it or not, those of us who don't grow and rear 100% of the food we eat have to trust the producers.
Going to go away and work out how much of my food comes from a factory.0
