Based on fact volume/horse not processed in uk/ireland so no reason for trace and amount suppliers its huge criminal ring. I doubt their concern was safety. It about palming it off , deceiving people and making huge profits.
Oh alsoi read current head uk fsa joining Tesco!
Comigel/findus french make lasaganes/spag bol for tesco/aldis withdrawn too. Despite being 100%horsemeat and french loving horse cant see how they can sell it on there.

I agree with a lot of what has been said on here.
You get what you pay for. It seems that a lot of folk in the country are happy to pay to eat a lot of processed junk.
Things that are called value range and appear to be good value appear to be meat of a dubious origin.
It comes from cheap sources and is packaged and prepeared for the audience market.
Am really shockedd by the crap in the foods that are listed above.
I am no shef but will not be buying foos that I am unsure about.
These big companies have a lot of blame on their shoulders and the worst thing about it is that it is given to the children in schools and burger joints.
Old people and people who need to buy and eat this rubbish.
I hope that the FSA sort it quick for the childrens sake and the future health of the nation.

heh sorry this comes to mind now0 -
Another reason I don't go to Tesco nowadays. one of our co-op shops is closed and I'm actually quite worried that tesco might try to turn it into another one of their insidious stores... the only co-op we have now is near the fire station...
At least we have a Waitrose! They don't horse around there! (eurgh, bad pun, I know)0 -
The trouble is ...the FSA has always been a mouthpiece for large companies...This is a scandal that has been brewing for a while...may be since last August

While I do accept that this is a major problem and that under no circumstances should this tpye of mis-labelling occur I wouldn't mind knowing what they are doing with anything found to contain horse meat.
Part of me would love the opportunity to try it! Certainly better than wasting perfectly good stuff.0 -
I saw a snippet online (forget where sorry) saying 3 out of 4 babies in UK now being weaned on organic baby food. Is that fashion or concern for kids ?
Have to say that we as consumers are partly responsible for the state of our food cos we flocked in droves to out of town stores and the independents closed. In the town of 50,000 I live in, there's ONE butcher, no bakery that actually bakes its own bread, ONE greengrocer. We've got seven supermarkets, with three more within 15 mins drive.
We also tend to zombie round supermarkets and buy all this rubbish without complaining - or even reading the label.
There was a woman from The Grocer on the BBC today and she says the chilled ready meal market in the UK is worth over a billion pounds annually and the frozen ready meal market over 800 million a year.
With dosh like that at stake, some businesses aren't going to be too fussy.
The FSAI test which caught the horsemeat is new and not even validated in UK yet according to the Select Committee video I watched on parliamentlive. So who knows how long this has been going on and how organised it is.
This could be Horsegate0 -

Longer than that. Over on the 'buy local' thread I refer to a blog post today from the expert Dr Richard North. He has two articles about the inherent problems of traceability in the EU system.
Does anyone seriously believe that standards are as high in Romania (where it is now claimed the horsemeat comes from) as they are in the UK? And yet, once food has a stamp of approval from an EU country, no other EU country may inspect it on importation.
This has been going on for years, getting worse all the time, and if I were a betting badger, I'd lay money that even this current crisis will make next to no difference. Too many palms are greased and pockets filled for anything to be changed by politicians.0 -
Just glad I haven't eaten value mince in a few years now.
One person keeping quiet on all this is Martin Lewis.. who encourages MSErs to downsize to cheaper own brands to save money. Am wondering whether he eats value mince himself....:money:0
