They wanted more for it I got around £1,500 knocked off the price.

They must of seen me coming that day.

I think you're knocking the motor unnecessarily. It sounds like a good little driver but you've had some bodywork issues with it. The damp in the boot could just be a missing drain plug. I'd say you have every reason to be content with the motor and it'll hold its value just as good as any other car of that marque when it comes to trade in. Not that any car holds its value well of course, just some do better than others.

Was there any need to buy a £12,500 car then...? If it's a diesel it's likely to have DPF filter which unless you do consistent motorway miles or run it for 20min+ periods weekly in the highest gear then the DPF filter will clog up and can cost £1000+ to replace. I assume it's a diesel if it was doing that sort of mileage. I also assume the dealership didn't explain DPF filters?

Why not but a car that expensive? before I got the insignia I had a Jeep Patriot, before that I had bought brand new a Volkswagen Eos.

It is a diesel, it's a 2.0 Sri (160) nav. I use it every day for a hour. On weekends I drive to my partners house 25 miles away (on the motorway) and back so I assume the DPF Filter is being maintained. The dealership didn't mention anything about DPF Filters I only know about them through reading on the net. I am a woman and it was sold by a woman and as most sales men treat women like they are stupid maybe they wasn't explained to the sales girl??

I'd be inclined to be content. Let Arnold Clark sort out the bodywork and get the leak in the boot fixed. The car drives ok and that's the main thing.

I dont like dealers and there dishonesty BUT in this case i dont think you have any comeback whatsoever.

As has been said its more likely a lease car, I have had different lease cars for the past 10 years, and one thing they have in common is they are serviced regularly and have new tyres on whenever rqd.

I would rather buy a car like that than one that has had one careful owner , has never been out of 3rd gear and had the clutch slipping everytime it is over revved to get of the old dears drive (sorry old dears).

Once the problems have been fixed, enjoy it for what it is

Dont understand why you would buy a diesel though as you do few miles

Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?

What makes you think that? Depending on what you traded in, it doesn't seem an unreasonable price, you presumably have the balance of the manufacturer's warranty, the car hasn't let you down and the rest --- some stone chips, a blocked drain plug and maybe a failed boot seal --- are just background noise. Nice car. Instead of looking for reasons to feel hard done by, why not just enjoy it? It's not an ex-hire car, and for cars in the Insignia/Mondeo segment, probably 90% of one and two year old cars on the market are ex-lease. Vauxhall diesel with a maufacturer-fit satnav? No-one buys that sort of car new with their own money. Good second-hand buy, though.

There is no secret, he's a fellow insignia driver so was offering me advice about the car when I get it back.

I was supposed to be hearing about it today but guess Arnold Clarks customer service is still lacking as I've not heard anything.

Thats a different story, I dont agree that you have any comeback, for sure their customer service sucks but very few dealerships fare better

I'm just funny about letting strangers near/in my car. When people say they will contact you they should contact you as well.

It's a shame that garage changed from a TVR garage to a Arnold Clark! :(
