Was considering registering with Foursquare and started the registration process. I was going to download the Android app to my phone, but noticed that this wanted access to the contacts on my phone and also my location so it could 'use' this information. NO WAY! That's not worth it - so I didn't complete the process.

    :(

It doesn't need access to your contacts. It's optional. And of course it needs your current location to check in at places. That's the whole point

Ditto. And I'm in the NW too.

I've succesfully used FS/Amex at Carphonewarehouse and Cineworld and didn't realise there was a Shell offer until I read MSE's page. I almost exclusively use Shell, so was pleased to see the offer and immediately checked it out - not showing.

Search for Shell, don't look for Specials. They're all there (as per link above)
  • Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to get cashback on transactions such as paying monthly bills i.e. to energy/water companies etc?

    Thanks!

You can but it's unlikely to be a good idea as a. They'll charge you about 2% for paying with a CC and b. you'll not benefit from any Diredt Debit discount

One exception to this is BT line rental where you can pay for a whole year in advance on a CC. Cheaper than monthly DD and cashback too
  • Colleague of mine told me there's currently a £25 back on £50 spend in Debenhams - can anyone confirm?

Yes there is, and Fenwick. You should follow the main thread at https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4284867 instead of this one.

When do you get paid the cashback? and how is it paid to you? credit on your card?

also when you apply to you have to register your card and that is when the cashback starts from, and is there a time restriction from receiving your card to registering?

You just synch your card, load the offer and the cashback is automatically credited back to your account, usually within 2 days

I think you can sign in and out on the same phone, once you've checked in and loaded the offer to your linked card, it doesn't matter if you've signed out again.

I'm going to try it though.

I love the FourSquare deals, it's a great way to have a good time while not feeling as though you're squeezing your belt too tight!
