    Improvements suggested on my plan:
Increase loft insulation, cost £100-£350, max repayment yr 1 £12
Cavity wall insulation (**if cavity wall!!), cost £500-£1,500, max repayment year 1 £7
Heating controls, cost £350-£450, max repayment year 1 £10
High performance external doors, cost £3,950-£5,300 max repayment year 1 £59
If other people have similar recommendations/financial help available then it explains why there is such a low uptake of the green deal finance - it is simply not worth getting involved with for the small amount of help available.
I think my assessor ignored the flat roof insulation I had asked about as there was no way savings on utility bills would begin to pay for it - the scheme isn't structured towards helping people be warm and comfortable in their homes in this way if the numbers don't add up.
Hope my experiences are helpful to some people as if I had properly considered I could only be lent a small fraction of my monthly utility payment I would have realised the numbers involved would not stack up for what I wanted and saved my money.:(
We found the same. Green deal simply isn't designed to help anyone, except the companys doing the EPC's.

Luckily our assessment was free from our local authority, shame yours wasn't.

I had a"cold" call on my mobile phone early this morning - a pre recorded northern female voice, said "As part of the UK Government's Green Deal Initiative, we would like to offer you a free boiler..." at which point I killed the call. There was no caller id supplied.

I only picked it up and pressed reply without looking at caller id because it was outside working hours and I was expecting a call from my sister.

I live in a large Victorian house which is a) insulated and b) had a new boiler installed 5 years ago which is regularly serviced and works well, by local plumbing firm. I have never asked anyone about a Green deal assessment.

I only ever use this particular phone for personal family calls and no one else has its number except Orange, so is Orange selling on my information? And is this another scam doing the rounds?
  • Can anyone recommend a good company to get a free boiler installed with?
Chatting with friends and family i fit the qualifications of benefits etc just not sure who to use ??? any ideas people ? :)

We at Lets Go Green Deal provide various different makes and models of Boilers and you can choose the one you want , we can give you an idea of the amount of funding you will get over the phone with our pre assesment.

If you are interested give us a call on 01618540047.

Time for lunch, I'm strangely drawn to a Spam and HP sauce sandwich, I don't know why?

  • Just had doorstep 'salesman' /assessor (?) at my door (bad sign number one) , says under ' ECO /HTT ' scheme we qualify for free cavity wall and loft insulation. He says due to the type of cavity in wall.We are not on benefits . No mention of the green deal , told totally free - I simply don't believe him and can find nothing that is clear on net in gov schemes, and def nothing about free if not on benefits. Am I missing out or rightly cynical ?

You can get free loft/cavity insulation on the CSCO scheme if you live in a designated area. Not benefit/means tested.

Although if you find a contractor to do it under CSCO, you'll probably have to crack the whip like I had to do with Dyson Energy Services if you want it done this winter!
  • I have been through the same process and they are very certain about their facts - stating HTT and that it is free. So far two surveyers have been round, and a Demestic Energy Assessor is due next week - I haven't spotted the flaw in the plan yet

    Any view welcome!!
