After weeks of emailing and phoning green deal providers to arrange for installers to provide quotes finally a provider arranged a technical survey for quotation purposes on Monday 3rd June, received phone call today from as administrator that Enact energy the green deal provider who was going to process my green deal has called in the recievers and ceased trading, if only the government had sorted things out quicker staff at this company may have had the much needed work in order to stay in business, so much for the governments claims the green deal will create jobs delays are actually costing the industry jobs.0

It didn't take much to send them under, maybe its better they went now rather than when they had unfulfilled orders.
GD is one hell of a big project you might think its being slow but have a look at the amount of GDA's BG now has!
They even have their boiler sales staff trained and ready to go.0 -
Had a company call up the other day. Reckoned they were the 'official' government supplier. yeah right. Wanted £300 for the survey. Nice one.
Anyway, it has got me interested but I see the survey aint £300 mostly. Any recommendations? Do Mark Group indeed do for free?
Whats the catch? Nothing is free.....0 -

They are/were the subcontract selling for Tesco/M&S, there has already been a "what do I do now" thread on MSE from a Tesco customer.
From that newspaper of record The Sun Sunday: "Go Green is £200M Govt Flop".
It seems the Sun has found out tht only 100 people have accepted a green deal and one of those works for the sponsoring department, however he was one of the three who put the repayments onto the electricity bill. However the BBC disputes the Sun figure and claims 200 have signed up.

I have just been approached by a company offering the green deal scheme, everything was going well with the conversation on the telephone until I was passed to supervisor who then advised i needed to pay £299.00 by credit card for an assessor to do a survey, on reading all the literature on the net no where does it imply that consumers need to pay fees upfront which made me suspicious. on further reading there are con merchants out there who give the spiel but i feel unless approached in an appropriate manor with correct credentials for me to view i really wont take part in this scheme0

Not sure if the free Green Deal assessment offer is still available with Mark Group. Their website makes zero mention of Green Deal, but does offer a free assessment. Whether Green Deal or not, this assessment will be conducted by someone who is only interested in selling you Mark Groups products. This is the catch.
I would suggest you look on the greendealorb website for advice organisations and ask a few about the assessment charge. I would expect you to be quoted north of £100, probably nearer £150. Just to put it in perspective, if, as a Green Deal Advisor, I introduce a client to a Green Deal Advice Organisation (who legally have to control the advice process) they will charge me £30 (+ vat) to carry out the admin and lodge the reports. So if I charge you £100, I earn about £64. The assessment is likely to take over 3 to 4 hours, so on a good day with no traffic problems, I can do 2 a day. Alternatively, I can stick to doing EPC's with far less hassle, and do 5-6 a day at £35 (or more) each. Easy decision really. Bottom line is you won't get people working at a rate that is less than one they can get elsewhere.
Compared to the free assessment, you will get someone with no incentive to sell you products, they will just be concerned with delivering best advice. I think that's worth paying for, but not sure most will pay the market rate.0 -
I believe that the low take up of the Green Deal is because Providers are not yet offering customes contracts. I had a British Gas Assesment in January but have had no correspondence from them since other then a telephone call to say that the software was not yet ready. I have looked up the EPC on the Landmark Site and this says that I can raise my Energy Efficiency Rating from 'F' to 'C' and save £3,846 over three years by installing Solid Wall Insulation. As I live in Pembrokeshire and have no mains gas I think this will be a sensible thing to undertaking and I am sure my house is the sort of proprty that the Government is trying to target.0

On a lighter note, as you live in a solid-walled house you should look into ECO first instead. This is the twin scheme to Green Deal and gives GRANTS, not loans. You will qualify for a partial or full grant simply because you live in a hard-to-heat or hard-to-treat house (i.e. solid walls, no cavity).
Note that ECO is a grant scheme which replaces the old schemes, but 'Green Deal' is effectively just a marketplace and financing mechanism, for people who don't qualify for a grant. In other words, you don't necessarily need it. There are other installers and other lenders out there. You could (if it ever works properly) use green deal to top-up a partial grant if you had no better means of doing so.
Well done for finding your recommended improvement at no cost by looking up an existing recent EPC. Another independent option, Dear Reader, is to get a new one from about £35 to £65 from a DEA (Domestic Energy Assessor) as Ecodave describes just above here.A cynic is not merely one who reads bitter lessons from the past; he is one who is prematurely disappointed in the future. Not happy at all.
I got an unsolicited call using hard sales techniques, they had some very old and out of date information about me and wanted to take £300 of me before anything had happened but promised me refund guaranteed or earn loads of cash back from the government - either way round I couldn't see any reason to take the deposit and - is it not the case - NEVER pay for work before it's done.
I hadn't heard of the deal before and this was not a good introduction to it. I will not be seeking out any deals from at.
Additionally I think that I would be put off buying any house that had outstanding debt against it from this deal.
If the government are that bothered about dodging the £7 billion fine then they should be paying for it all as far as I'm concerned. Maybe they could be selective and give away products to NHS/teachers/police/public workers to balance the fact that they're screwing them so hard at the minute.
this made me so mad that i had to join the forum.

So has anyone actually had work done on Green Deal yet?
I see British Gas are offering assessments for £99 but not doing any work yet. Nice little earner for them that!
If I had an EPC done on my house it would probably be an F so would love to get work done on Green Deal.0
