Saw the news this morning about the IVF age being raised from 39 to 42 - eeeek I had no idea it was that low to begin with - gosh that makes me feel seriously old to be trying for #1 now.
Hugs to you all.

Its a bit of a postcode lottery I am afraid. In my area (Glasgow) the waiting list is 2 years. So to qualify you have to be on the waiting list BEFORE your 38th birthday. I made the waiting list one month before I turned 38. I'm not sure ehat the waiting lists are like in other areas.0 -
Tcd, I forgot to respond the other day when you wee asking about hsg. You can't bd before, as you cannot be even a little bit pg when they do it cos of both the xray and the dye causing abnormalities and miscarriages. At mine I had to abstain until it was done and they made me do a pg test before they'd do it. You can carry on with bd foot the rest of the cycle, as normal, after the test has been carried out. Hth.

Hi everyone
I'm new to this forum and would like to know any tips you have for TTC. At the mo my approach is just make sure to BD every day!!
I found out that using lubricants is a no no. Why isn't this publicised more? On a complementary approach colour therapy would say to wear orange for that area of the body - even if it's just pants or a handbag if you don't fancy bright orange clothes. And/or carry an orange crystal in your pocket, like carnelian. It's worth doing even if you don't believe in it. Right I'm away to cleanse my chakras. Hope to hear some good tips, thank you xx0 -
Hello faithhope. Hehe that's my approach too - lots of bd'ing! However it does make me worry that they may not be as strong swimmers than those that have been there a bit longer iygwim? I've started (10 days ago) charting my temp first thing in am, on fertility friend app - I'm now a little obsessed! It's quite interesting lol. I'm awaiting af so haven't seen an ov line on it yet. Tempted to start using opk's but tried them 6yrs ago and didn't work for me. XxDD1 June 1997

No, it's not. It's ridiculous. I wish you every success but wearing orange won't make the slightest bit of difference."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Just to add... it took me 8 years of trying before I had my wonderful baby. Eight long years and three rounds of emotionally draining fertility treatment before it became evident that my eggs simply weren't up to the job and that I'd never carry my own genetic child.
I can't begin to tell you how insulting it would have been for someone to pitch up and tell me all I need to do is sling on a pair of orange pants and, bingo, I'd be up the cream puff.
I hate all that 'complementary' rubbish. It gives people false hope and encourages them to spend their hard-earned cash on trinkets and talismans. It's heartbreakingly manipulative and exploitative."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Thanks for that bigzippy. I've just dug some condoms out from under the bed for when AF goes and found that half of them had expired! The shame of having condoms that are too old to use!
Firefly thanks for letting me know about AC/ cycle changes. I think I'm going to leave it this month as if it did make me ov 5 days earlier I'd be pushing it with my HSG. Will put bottles back in the ttc cupboard (I actually have one of those in my kitchen...) and just carry on with the inositol this month- not sure how that'll work while I'm busy stuffing my face with whole nut...
Welcome to the newbies- my advice/ top tips would be to make sure you're bd'ing at the right time! No use going at it like the clappers if there's no egg!(unless you enjoy that sort of thing... :rotfl: ) Make sure you're taking your folic acid/ multi-vits. I think they recommend you taking them for 3 months prior to TTC- though I may have made that up as I've been taking them for two years now... I'd also recommend not getting obsessed too quickly- it's definitely easier said than done (as you can tell from most of my mental ramblings on here) but if it doesn't happen quickly it really takes its toll on you so I'd pace yourselves and don't rush into all of the TTC mentalness- unless you have existing fertility issues of course, then I'll budge up and you can sit right here on my crazy bench... *pats bench....*
I'm with fluffnutter on the orange pants but if it makes you feel better then it doesn't hurt I suppose- please just don't suggest homeopathy....0 -

Absolutely. For most people it's just a bit extra, a way of making themselves feel they're doing everything they can. That can be a positive thing, helping to keep hopes and spirits up.
But for some it becomes an end in itself, a desperate way of controlling the environment to bring about a much wanted thing. If *this* happens, I'll fall pregnant. If *that* comes true, I'll have the baby I want so much. That yearning spurns an entire industry - it's one thing to buy something orange, it's another altogether to spend hundreds of pounds on spurious snake oil treatments that are at best useless and at worst, dangerous.
The fact is, if you're struggling to conceive you need proper medical investigations, not someone fiddling with your chakras whilst you're wearing a pair of orange kacks.
Anyway, I've made my point now... back to what this thread's best at... let's have some more POSITIVE PREGNANCY TEST PICS PLEASE"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Having given up doing the opk I am now wondering if I should do another? On CD27 (i think) and last month AF wasn't until CD43. Would it be pointless to now randomly do one now having not done one since thursday??
I don't think it'd hurt- just make sure you've dehydrated yourself a bit for the couple of hours before you test and it's better to test between 11am to 11pm. Do you know how long your luteal phase is? If it's standard 14 days then you wouldn't be expecting to ov until CD 29...
I can't remember how new you are tia (sieve memory) but CD1 is the first day that you see bleeding so should be pretty easy to figure out what CD you're on now. If I were you I'd do them every day until you got a positive (within reason like! If your longest ever cycle has been 50 days and you know your LP is 14 then I'd do OPKs until CD37 to try and pinpoint my surge). Are you temping?0 -
Have to agree with you Fluff!
I wear a fair bit of orange anyway as I quite like it but it's not worked any kind of magic on me so I'll never be convinced! As for chakras... not a clue!
My reflexology lady (who I went to for the nice foot rub more than anything else) used to do reiki (???) on me and would say 'Can you feel it?' as she held her hands over various places... I think I was supposed to lie and say that I could as she was most upset when I said, 'Err, no, are you touching me?!'.
Welcome faithhope anyway  As for the lubricants, normal ones are indeed sperm-killers but if you want to use one still you can get Conceive Plus which is TTC friendly (supposed to help actually)Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0
