Sorry just to add also - I assume if she's got a 7 year old child she can't be the same age as your son?

    Let's hope not! He's only 20.

He realised all by himself he shouldn't send her the money, so he is buying the ticket for her and getting it sent to her via email ... Presuming he can do this????

I really would not do this. If she really wants to genuinely come and see your son to spend time with him and get to know him, then she can pay for the ticket herself. If she doesn't have the money, then she should just save up for it. What's the rush?

Honestly this whole story is ringing HUGE warning bells to me in my experience.

Another point to raise, maybe they have both forgotten about it, but does she have a valid passport?

Not that many Americans actually have them, and I'm guessing if she hasn't been in holiday for 10 years, she will prob be in the majority!
May take longer than a week to sort, so don't let your son book her flight until they have all of this sorted.

I hope this all works out for your son OP

She's probably never been out of Alabama never mind out of the US.

    Wow!
Please do not let your son transfer the money to her to pay for the ticket, he will never see her or the money again.

Do you know how old the girl is?

At the moment I don't think we even know if it's a girl!

Sorry OP. You do realise that a significant number of people use the WORLD wide web to scam.

This 'girl' could be anyone, anywhere. They have stumbled across your son who by your own admission is not very wordly wise. The ideal person to scam.

It may be genuine, but even if it is she sounds highly undesirable.

I could say I'm a 80 year old man living in Santa Cruz. I could even source a picture of a 80 year old man with a backdrop of Santa Cruz. I could send you a picture of 'my' children, grandchildren. I could do this is a matter of minutes. The cost of a flight is equivalent to a yearly salary in some patrs of the world. These people can take their time to build up trust and relationships online. It's a job.

Why is she a liar have i missed something?

She claimed her mum was going to pick him up from the airport. Now all of a sudden the mother is an uncaring drug addict. Does the whole story ring true??

Out of curiosity, how does he intend to help her?

She seems to have a lot of problems, and that could just be the tip of the iceberg. Be friends by all means but her issues should be dealt with by a trained professional.
