Clubcard Points and MIL - Dilemma.

Thats exactly it, thank you.
Yes, I was miffed because I'd let her have them at face value when I could have used £30 worth of clothes myself. I thought I was putting into the 'days out' pot for everyone to use.
If you would double them up and use them yourself then do that. i wouldnt be miffed with your MIL though ~ lots of assumption on both sides i think.0 -

I see now.
Not at all, I dont grocery shop in Tesco. There are many things online I could have used £30 on, electricals, Christmas gifts, clothing etc0 -
To be honest, I think your MIL and SIL have been incredibly generous in the past by treating your children to days out in the past. Not only has your MIL paid face value for vouchers that she's then spent on your children (and your SIL donated her vouchers for free), I'm assuming you haven't given them anything for petrol / parking / food on these days out (which is all very pricey). I think you should be grateful for their generosity and let your MIL spend these vouchers how she wishes x0

So your MIL pays you face value for the vouchers & then uses the vouchers for your children's benefit.
Sounds like you have a good deal to me.Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -
If you gave them to her for free, I can certainly see why you would be miffed. But since she pays you for them (albeit at face value) and then usually spends them on YOUR children, I think it would be pretty petty to complain or make a fuss. I think its a bit much to begrudge her buying something for herself with any extra/leftover vouchers - after all, she's been converting her own vouchers to take your children out in the past.
I suspect this is a simple matter of poor communication. Once MIL has paid you for the vouchers, they are hers to do what she wishes with. I suspect initially she intended to use them for day out vouchers, but then when she realised how many she already had, decided to spend them on something else instead. I can't see that she's deliberately trying to pull a fast one, or she wouldn't be paying you for the vouchers in the first place.0 -
Really can't see what the actual problem is. I buy them off my mum as she rarely uses them for deals etc and the money I give her she puts into her sealed pot for Christmas. If she wants to use them once in a while for deals in store she says so, simple. Just tell her you want to use them yourself, I actually cant see why you don't if you have children anyway. The deals are fantastic.0

Surely the days out cost more in money than just the conversion of the vouchers? Petrol to get there? Ice creams? Drink? If you and your OH don't go on these days out must be your MIL it's costing? She needed clothes, have you wondered whether her finances are ok? Does she need help?0

If you were giving her the vouchers for free AND it was absolutely stipulated that is to pay for your children's days out, then I would be fuming.
But from what you are saying here it doesn't seem the case at all.
You could have doubled them up, exchange them for 4x value for restaurants, exchange for plants... but you never did, did you? Until you found that it is even possible to double up on clothes this has never occured to you.
I don't think you have reason to be miffed.
However going forward I would just tell her that I became savvy now too and can use them myself, there are actually things you could do with on offer, if you want to start using them now too.0 -

To clarify a few points.
SIL is paid for her vouchers just the same as I am. The days out tokens pay for her and her OH to get into theme parks along with my children. OH and I don't go and actually are never asked if we want to. Again this is probably an assumption that we wont.
Petrol is a non issue as it is usually OH and I that drive them as we live reasonably close to a theme park. Moreoften than not they take the bus, which my children's fare is paid for by myself.
Food, again the children are given money to buy food within the park and it is always spent.
MIL's finances are just fine. My inlaws are very well off indeed.0 -
OH and I are not theme park fans so we ctually never use them ourselves
Make your mind up.;)OH and I don't go and actually are never asked if we want to. Again this is probably an assumption that we wont.
Just tell her that this time there are some things you want and as she has plenty of days out vouchers left over you'll be keeping this lot and that she should tell you when the days out vouchers are getting low so you can give her the next lot to top up the pot.
Just because she's isn't doing exactly what you want her to with the vouchers isn't something to start getting antsy aboutAccept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
