Received my Nationwide credit card today. Surprised to see it is a Visa rather than a MasterCard.

That's a welcome change credit card wise for me, for years my only Visa has been Barclaycard (since the Vanquis and Monument (remember that one)) have been gone, everything else MC, but in the last six months I took out MBNA and Nationwide cards which are Visa, makes the balance a bit less MC biased!

Didn't know that! Makes no difference anyway. Going to go shopping at the weekend to take advantage of the 20 month BT offer. Will put £240 on Aqua and the rest on Capital One for the cashback, to offset even a little bit of the BT fee.

I thought about trying to put all of my spending on Aqua, making a BT soon as the transactions appear on the statement then go spend again but I've only got three months to make the BT and since I'll be spending a few grand, it'll be a huge pain in the !!! and take forever - really depends on how fast the BT would take though.

I'll have maxed out my Aqua cashback in no time at all, regardless of whether I put my spending on it now (over the 3 months) or not so I'll benefit either way. If I put my spending on Capital One then that'll push my cashback rate to 1% (possibly to the 1.25% tier but unsure yet. 0.5% at present.) until the anniversary but I'll need to check when the anniversary is because I don't recall.

  • @ElkyElky - Capital One Secured card is still credit checked but is still much easier to get than the Classic card. There are two levels of security deposits attached - £49 and £200 and you have up to 80 days from the date of application to pay the secured sum.

If they've quoted you an actual figure then chances are that's what your limit will be, despite them calling it a 'provisional limit'.

I can confirm that is the case! :j Received an email with the login details for online account management which states my limit is £1000. Result! now to get rid of my Vanquis card.

Just applied for my Aqua card & got it. Looking forward to earning the cashback.

This year has really started off so well.
Struggled with debt previously however now I have 6.9% LOB with Barclaycard. 0% on mbna & 0% on nationwide.
