I don't understand why they tell us on facebook that we can be rerouted yet once you are on the phone they state you can only be refunded? It is beyond a joke.

Airlines tend to be a bit more responsive on social media given the potentially damaging effect of bad publicity.

Unfortunately, it doesn't mean the come good on their promises.

    Keep pestering them publicly?

YEs I'll be on their facebook page every day until they have sorted out my flights.
  • Good news guys, my flights have been rerouted.

It means I end up in Beijing 4 and a half hours later than originally planned, but I get a 9 hour stopover in Amsterdam which I am happy with as it gives me a chance to look around a new city.

So now I'm flying with Alitalia to Amsterdam from Rome and klm to Beijing. Then on the way home Beijing to Amsterdam using klm and then klm to rome. Then the following morning I have a flight back to London from Rome.

Quick piece of advice, your booking reference is exactly the same, they won't email you the tickets for a while, but you can check your booking by going onto the KLM website and entering your old booking reference and last name.
  • Thanks for all the assistance guys!

    Excellent news. Well done Alitalia.

If it was me, I might be tempted to jump ship at Amsterdam on the way home, and buy an easyJet flight back to London.

Won't my luggage be checked in all the way back to Rome though? I guess they will let me have my luggage back for the night in Rome before returning on the AM flight to London.

Ah yes, there is that problem. Usually you can persuade the check-in agent to tag the bags only as far as AMS, but not 100%.

It was just a thought. As long as you want to spend the time in Rome, thats probably more fun anyway. Plus of course th extra miles you'll earn if you're collecting them.

It would be better for me if they can skip Rome, just Amsterdam to London. Less stops will be better though, well we are dealing with Alitalia.

Im re routed the same way except my stop overs are a lot less..im in Amsterdam and Rome for under 2 hours ..so I still get home on same date as I originally should have and arrive in Beijing same date I should have.
Shame it took a week for them to actually sort this!
  • Just went to check my booking again on the KLM website and it is showing up as cancelled again! What on earth is going on?
