  • So what are my options if these flights are cancelled? Should I book my own flights and then send them the bill?

Have you asked KLM what's going on?

As the weather is so crap today I thought I'd have a go at getting through to someone at Alitalia and see what they were saying about re-routing these cancelled tickets, and it was completely painless.

Was originally booked for VCE-FCO-PEK on 11/03 and PEK-FCO-LHR 30/03. They've rerouted these tickets as VCE-AMS-PEK and PEK-AMS-LIN-LHR with 4 our of the 5 sectors on KLM (not even the China Southern operated KLM flight to PEK) all with good connections. I tried to push for getting routed direct to LHR from AMS as others have suggested above but they couldn't do that. But the connections at AMS and LIN are quick so the return flight takes the same overall time, and the outbound is just 2hrs slower.

New e-tickets were issued instantly by email and the whole process took about 20mins from start to finish. They were offering any reasonable routes on KL/AF/SU/MU.

I was expecting a complete nightmare, but in the end they exceeded my expectations. That being said if I had tried the same thing two weeks ago I expect I'd have been sorely disappointed.

Just went to check my booking again on the KLM website and it is showing up as cancelled again! What on earth is going on?

Stu, interestingly they were not offering me seats on the evening KLM flight which I think you were given based on your previous comments. I think you were starting from VCE like me. What I was offered for 11/03/13 was

    KLM1654 1235 VCE - 1440 AMS
    KLM0897 1735 AMS - 0955 PEK

which avoids the long wait at AMS (or trip into the city) which I think you mentioned. The KLM website accepted the original booking code for me and I've been able select seats as soon as I got off the phone.

Good luck getting it sorted out.
  • Just out interest does your new booking show a ticket number? As when I logged into the klm website it didn't show a ticket number which I though was strange.

    Sorry for delayed reply Stu

    If I go to klm.com
    Click on My Trip
Enter the reservation code and surname
After a pause the page refreshes and gives

    Trip
    Seats
    Bag allowance
Flight details, and to right new eTicket numbers.

    Hope that's of some use.

called yesterday, they said they will call me back wihtin 24 hours and that was a promise, no one called, so I called again, 36 minutes on the phone, no flights can be found for me, they will call me with in the next 24 hours.....
I said just get me a flight from rome to any one of the big cities in China via whatever.....
  • I keep using Facebook to contact them as CS are just useless. To coincide with the FCO/PEK outbound and PEK/FCO/LHR return, I booked BA flights to Rome, hotels in Rome and Beijing etc.

I understand that an airline is allowed to cancel a flight, however, I am really upset that they have now broken many promises of rerouting and put the 'phone down on me around 4 times (when I refuse a refund). Who can I report this to? Cancellation is allowed but surely lies and more lies is against some sort of law??
