Im sorry, but why is nobody allowed to bring up the subject of the ADHD child? So basically, this child can wander around doing whatever he / she wants to, negatively impacting upon others but hush hush, we cant say anything.

There is a serious case of NIMBYism going on here, because Im pretty sure that no parent would tolerate this.

I don't know about others but the reason I advised not to bring it up on Monday is that OP seemed focused on sorting out the 'dinner lady' issue (her priority?) and would be better off just dealing with that when she sees the HT. I based this on someone who goes to an appointment with a big list of grumbles can water down their case.

Apparently the ADHD child is dropped off early every day and hurts many children. I did suggest how I'd handle that too so it's not about not daring to speak of it. IMO having ADHD doesn't give anyone the right to hurt others although I know many use it as carte blanche. If he has supervision all day (amazed at that, it certainly wouldn't be afforded here) then his parents are letting him down by dropping him off early unsupervised.

fair enough, I thought you were advocating not dealing with the situation.

When DD had an issue with her Y5 teacher bullying her I felt too upset and emotional to deal with the issue myself so my OH who was used to dealing with difficult situations came with me and was cool and factual so consider if you should go in alone if you feel you might become upset.

I had spoken to the Head about the issue, there were specific things which he has made reference to in school report, and he advised we had our parent meeting with him and then came straight away to see him and he would deal with. The Head was fantastic and called us back a week later to say he had spoken to the teacher, spoke to other teachers and that the situation with the teacher would not re-occur. He asked us if we were happy he had dealt with it or did we want to refer the issue to the school governors. We felt confident it had been addressed as did DD (she didn't come to any of the meetings) so left it as that and she continued at the school without further issue.

A friend had a much different experience with their DD school. I can't remember what the first incident was but my friend was unhappy and complained to the school and he felt they lied. Then there was a second incident, much more serious that involved their child being hospitalised and having surgery. The child told the parents what had happened but it didn't even nearly tally with the school's version of events. If the child is to be believed then a teacher and head teacher have lied through their teeth. Friend removed their child from the school and is in the process of going through the LEA complaints procedure.

The child has no reason to lie as it was an accident that caused the injury but says there was no adult supervision in this area of the playground at the time so another child had to run and find help. The school's version was that a teacher was present.

  • I'll be interested to hear the response you get Emma - I completely understand your concern re the other child being represented while it would appear that your own son was thrown to the dogs.

Hope it goes well for you.

The guidelines have changed very recently (ie in the last few weeks) and it is now head > governors > Department of Education. The LA has been cut out. I am reasonably sure this is nationwide.

Thanks for the heads up Nicki - I will find out if this applies here in Wales but have been busy babysitting this weekend.

Hi, just wanted to give you an update.

Both matters have been addressed and dealt with, very well by the Headteacher. I'm very pleased with the outcome and wanted to thank everyone for their advice and input on these matters.

    Its irrelevant really.

If the OP is happy with the outcome , then she is happy with the outcome and the school has done a good job.

That is really good to hear. I am glad everything has been resolved to your satisfaction. Alot of that will be down to how well you handled the situation. It sounds like a load has been lifted from your shoulders :)
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

So pleased it has been resolved to your satisfaction!
A little more info would have been appreciated by us nosy beggars - but, no matter, the main thing is that you are happy with the outcome! I hope I have been some help to you.
