Been looking at this forum to find car hire in mainland Spain so thanks for all the help. For anyone going to the Canaries, we use a local company called Cicar (not allowed to post a link so google Cicar) . We've used them a number of times with no problem and they'll even take payment in cash. Their rates include fully comp insurance with no excess and no extras whatever. Wish they operated elsewhere.0

I travel to Spain a few times a year and always book my car hire with Indigo Car Hire, i have a Visa debit card which is fine. However if you want to book a car hire with a debit card you have to call them rather than book online which is better to be honest as it gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and also gives me reassurance that when i get to Alicante or Murcia airport i will not have a problem. I am pretty sure they can arrange car hire at most Spanish airports, so def worth looking into.0

Back from holiday in Spain having booked via CARJET. The hire was with Advantage which is part of Hertz. We picked our car up at Barcelona Airport and had no problems whatsoever in using a debit card. We had to take the extra local insurance (which we would have done anyway) and had been advised of this by CARJET before we went.
I had booked online via CARJET and was pleased with the service. The printout said specifically that Advantage normally need a credit card but that they have a special arrangement for CARJET customer to use debit cards. This gave me some confidence that I had something to show Advantage if there had been any problems.
It does annoy me though that you get a full tank and have to return it empty. On this occasion it wasn't a problem having to use it all but we still paid for that tank at Advantage's inflated prices.:mad:0 -
I also had the same problem and I initially booked with Carrental.com until I found out that they would require a credit card. I emailed them to check and they said they would except a debit card, but would require a deposit of 600 euros + tax! I cancelled and found a company called Carjet that will except debit cards. Just book online and pay the local additional insurance @ 6 euros a day. No need for a deposit either! :jI will update after I have been on my trip in December to let you know how I got on.0

After reading this thread I am starting to get worried. We have booked a car for our holiday next year to Alicante and have already paid for it online using a Visa debit card. We had no problems paying for it and have received a confirmation email for our booking. Are we going to have problems when we show up to collect it? The car hire company is Hertz.Mortgage Free in 3-T2 : Started at £151,000 Nov. 2009 Mortgage Free Oct 1st 2015

For your own peace of mind contact them and ask them if they'll accept a debit card at pick-up. If not, then cancel and book through a broker like Carjet.0 -
I have just come back from a holiday in Alicante. The holiday was much more enjoyable as i was able to source a car hire with ease. This was all thanks to Indigo Car Hire.
I have had real trouble in the past when trying to get a car hire as many of the larger companies only accept these. I spoke to a young lady called Ann-Marie when booking and she explained everything to me and that Indigo could provide car hire with a debit card. They made the booking process really easy and as i booked in advance there were loads of vehicles available. I also got a really great price as well. :money:
Definitely worth a try!!0 -
