I would also call the police. Sorry you are going through such a tough time at the moment, let us know the outcome, it is very strange. Perhaps a friend could come over to keep you company?

  • Sorry to hear this has happened to you :(

Have you actually had a check through your property to double check that nothing is missing i.e. money/jewellery etc?

The other thing is if they had a dog handler with them (and the fact that they came whilst you were at work) it suggests they know you well or they've been in your property before possibly? Alternatively I suppose they could have called a dog handler once they realised the dog was there so I guess that's not very helpful....sorry.

Other thing I can suggest is phoning Stepchange for advice on this. Do you have any family or friends that could come and stay over tonight to keep you company?

Do persevere with the phone call to the Police until you get through - if we are to assume that whoever it is has not tried to contact you for money/debts etc previously, then this is bang out of order. Do you owe money to anyone else apart from the mortgage? Just wondering it could be a dodgy loan company or something? (Don't mean to offend just writing down any idea that comes into my head as to why this could have happened)

  • Ive checked the back door and its the same lock....its also so confusing at the moment. my neighbour knocked and gave me their mobile number and said any problems to call them and made me promise to call 999 if anything untoward happened, Im sure it wont but it made me feel better.

Im all locked in with my mobile and house phone upstairs...im sure I will be ok till the morning but want to be safe.

I will try phoning the locksmith again tomorrow first thing for information and see what he says also try yet again to get hold of the police.....

Im lucky in that im off work tomorrow morning and have realised that if I lock my front door from the inside and leave the key in and then go out the back door locking it they would have to change that lock to get in and climb over a 6ft fence to do so lol.

What a nightmare im so so tired of it all just want to work to get myself debt free and start a new life for myself in the clear.

Thanks again I really really do appreciate all your help xxxx

Please, please do try the police again. It sounds like a nightmare and I'm sure having a chat with them before you go to bed will help you feel a little safer.

It all sounds incredibly odd. I hope you get to the bottom of it and can be left to grieve in peace.

  • as for Debts they are just through normal companies.....Council Tax, water rates, gas & Elec Barclaycard and Natwest c-card...all following my seperation and the depression that followed I didn't keep up with payments etc so am now dealing with Stepchange. I will phone them also tomorrow for advice

thankfully kept enough presence of mind not to go the way of loans companies during my depression...just ended up owing to much money :-(

I just found this for you...not sure it is what you want to hear but may shed some light on what is going on.

My ex Husband has come to an agreement with the mortgage company on the phone I was with him when he spoke to them on speaker phone and the repayments and the terms etc are all agreed, they even taken the first payment etc. So I don't think it can be that.

Ive googled his number and nothing comes up and his phone just says the orange phone Ive called is switched off.

My neighbour says the guys came in 2 vans that were unmarked...he thought they might have been Bailiffs but was on his way to work when they arrived so only saw them in passing.

Im going to lock my door with the key from the inside and then leave the key in the lock so no other key can be put in (and in case of fire )

Ive got my Dads funeral a week tomorrow and had my car written off last week in the snow....my lucks really vanished

Thanks for your replies tho it helps to make me feel less alone x

DO NOT DO THAT! Had my home broken in to whilst I was asleep upstairs. They removed the door handle from the outside (taking out the screws) and used something like long-nosed pliers and turned the key in the lock from the outside !! They entered the house, found the keys to the garage, the car on the drive and my husand's motorbike. Went in to garage, removed ground anchors etc. from the bike (with the keys) opened the car and rolled it down the drive so they could get the bike past it.

Find something that fits under the handle snugly .
If they can not press the handle down all the door bolts stay locked in the frame, a bit of wood works Wonders.
    Be happy...;)
  • If the court makes an outright possession order, it will set a date by which you have to move out. If you don't leave by that date, your lender or freeholder can ask the bailiffs to evict you.
Thankfully this isn't applicable as the mortgage is all sorted out and agreements in place and no possession order either so I do know its very unlikely to be that

  • Are you able to stay with friends/neighbours/family in the meantime or have them stay with you? Just to make you feel safe...
Plus, given your recent loss, it might also be good on an emotional level to have the company of someone close to help with the grieving process...just someone to talk to basically...or not to talk to...maybe just watching DVDs or whatever...
