    Got my £30.

I've switched to Flow energy. Amazingly you can submit your meter readings online. Amazingly they had all my meter information in their database when I put in my address. And guess what - it was spot on.

I'm going to let them sort it out.

Have a complaint in progress with Sainsburys and have spoken to Ofgem about this mess.

Let's hope whichever government get in that pressure is put on these imbecilic energy company bosses and fine's get handed out.

8 weeks grace to switch suppliers is a joke in this day and age when all the data needed is in databases that are available online. In theory you could switch in 24 hours if the muppets like BG had a proper IT system.

Flow obviously are on the the ball and have the tech and IT support to manage their systems and customers efficiently. Hopefully companies like British Gas will go the way of the dodo eventually.

Also - I must question your wisdom when deciding that British Gas were a decent company to recommend - even a quick search on google shows headlines similiar to this:

British Gas profits fall after a million complaints and 400,000 customers leave - but it still made £571m from UK households

We are not happy with the problems either and have been putting pressure on Sainsbury's to resolve these issues.

I avoided this offer, mainly because it required joining MSE's Cheap Energy Club. It was an advert for the CEC as well as promoting some collective switches.

The problem with MSE collective switches is they are given huge promotion which means a glut of new customers. Energy companies generally have poor customer service. I don't believe MSE or any other heavily promoted collective switch is worth it.

MSE Sainsburys Energy tariff was a 1.3% saving - £901 versus £913 next best. MSE's claims about its huge power smashing other best buys weren't believable for such a tiny saving and were mere puffery.

MSE is still calling it Sainsburys Energy which does not fit with what people who took out this offer say.

On whether MSE, Sainsburys or British Gas wrote the advert, MSE claims that it controls everything that it publishes, but this is a claim that could be tested. From the email offer of 28th January
'As always, we only ever write based on editorial independence in the consumer interest as guaranteed by our legally binding editorial code.'

It is free to make a complaint to the ASA. If it agrees its code of advertising might have been broken it will investigate and it will get to the bottom of questions like does Sainsburys Energy exist as described.

Disappointing that Martin Lewis who was all over this offer is not answering complaints.

First click for the offer would be o open email from inbox, second click took you here

The ASA is unlikely to consider much further than the first few clicks. Information if the consumer needs it to make a decision can't be hidden in the fourth of fifth click.
  • From latest MSE newsletter today:

'Switching isn't a big faff. It's the same elec, same gas, same safety. Only service, billing & price changes. Sometimes YOUR OWN ENERGY FIRM offers a cheaper deal, but you need to ask to move to it.'

I can't agree there - that statement is patently untrue.

    You have to laugh.
  • Perhaps some of you should have some realistic expectations then you may not rant so much if something does not go 100% as planned by you.

I do know this sainsbury's are heavily involved in sainsbury's energy with british gas and its well advertised from the start. Ofgem allow this so stop going on about asa etc as its already been authorised.
Go out and enjoy the sunshine!!!!!!!

M&s energy is run by sse, age uk have one too

this is nothing new enjoy the cheaper rate and be quiet or find another supplier like first utility who never answers the phone or replies to your emails

Great first post. Thanks for the help Martin.

    Sales talk.

If you've wasted hours and hours and are out of pocket, you're entitled to complain.

Can you complain about MSE on http://www.resolver.co.uk/

    Martin Lewis might reply!

And after reading the latest newsletter and part of a quote from "Martin" there was I thinking that MSE were "taking part-ownership of the company" :money:

    Maybe I read it wrong!!

Was going to switch from British Gas to Sainsbury's. Now after reading this thread I'm having second thoughts.

  • I've saved over £600 p/a by switching from SSE to Sainsburys – should have done it earlier!
Changeover went smoothly, the only problem was when I set up an online account, the account claimed it already had my email address, one abandoned a few years ago, so no messages could reach me. A long wait in the phone queue, but it was eventually sorted out. The reason was Sainsburys front for British Gas, and BG were referring to an old account I had with them.
