One thing is I'm expecting £30 cashback from the CEC, wonder when (if?) that'll turn up.

My switch completed back end of February. I got email from MSE today saying my cashback was on its way to me

    EDIT - and it's in!

Is it possible you could detail how we complain to official regulator as I'm not happy with this whole debarcle and possibly write some template text to quote?

I have already written to Ofgem but as yet had no reply.

Like you I had the presence of mind to cancel previous supplier Direct Debit but to be fair to First Utility they have been spot on.

It's just these SE plebs who can't get the simplest of things right that's causing me concern. I'd also like to complain about MSEs promotion of SE but not sure where to go.

Comments from MSE staff/BG, SE Staff are not helpful and SE/BG and MSE have lost all my respect.

Money Sucking Embicilies (sic). Last time I ever use this site for anything switching related.

Most people who switched through the collective switch should now have received (or will very shortly receive) their cashback. It is paid directly into your bank account under the reference 'EnergyClubCashBk'.

So MSE got their £2.7million from this promotion from the 90,000 customers who signed up.

:T Well done. I should imagine you're all very happy in the office.

Strange Martin hasn't mentioned anything about this complete disaster on this site or any of his other outlets that he regulary features on.

Makes me feel dirty that I got sucked in to this sham of a promotion.

Hope you guys are enjoying the champagne.
  • Got the cash back into my account this morning and cancelled membership of this "energy club" immediately after. Total b****up and a disgrace to MSE

The tariff is good but the switch is still being a bit of a disaster for me.

They haven't bothered to even bill me this month or last. In theory this is good news, apart from the bit where I know they'll catch up eventually.

I've given monthly meter readings, but my gas account is showing as £110 in credit and my electricity at zero. I'm using about £40-£50 a month on both, with gas usage set to drop to near zero now it's warmer.

Apparently they can't get a direct debit sorted out on my electricity account due to a cockup where they randomly decided my electricity was pre-pay (and sent me a british gas meter key) so now their system won't let them take money from my bank even though it's now showing credit meter and the correct tariff.

It'll get sorted eventually and the price is worth the hassle, but this is a bit of a disaster for sure.

Slight update.. Having give my actual reading to Sainsbury/BG over a month ago (after MUCH hassle and a number of attempts) I have now received the final bill from EDF, obviously using a massively over estimated reading.. Why cant Sainsbury/British Gas manage to supply the correct reading to the old supplier in time? I am now £250 out of pocket, some of which will be refunded, new bills generated by SE/BG due to the new starting reading, All of which could EASILY be avoided if they had just gone the transfer correctly.

Following a number of broken promises for a call backs I have now been promised a call by an expert (?) within 5 days..

I regularly switch provider to get a better deal, and it has always been fairly painless, until this switch, I've had nothing but problems. :(

If you are thinking of switching to Sainsburys Energy/British Gas, DONT, the only people that will benefit is MSE.

MSE should not take its estimated £2.7 million commission. It should go towards compensating customers. That's what MSE has done in the past when its deals have failed (see below).

If it profits from this promotion, it will run more deals that it can't deliver. As had been mentioned, Martin Lewis controls his many media appearances so there is no press to hold MSE to account. Ed Davey, former energy minister, takes credit for collective switches, so you have politicians and so called press, neither of whom will tell the truth about the success or failure of collective switches as both have their own vested interest.

Complain to the ASA, MSE says it is not the promoter of its deals, this is to avoid having to compensate customers imo, but the ASA has ruled against it that it is the promoter of its deals.

'They explained that "MSE Blagged" offers were generally exclusive to MSE as they negotiated them for their readers, but that they didn't always receive payment for the offer. In this case, MSE stated that the initial arrangement was that MSE would receive a small payment for each sale that Arena made to an MSE user in connection with the Valentine's promotion. They explained, however, that because of the supply issues, they had asked Arena not to pay them, and instead invest the money back into addressing the resulting customer service issues. Although MSE acknowledged that they had haggled a discounted price for their readers, they did not believe that this meant they were the promoter.'

  • Hey Guys - a heads up...

If you have your £30 and have had enough of Sainsburys Energy already then you can switch with no penalty to another suppler.

I used the MSE Energy Comparison and found Flow Energy was cheaper than Sainsburys anyway so have initiated a switch. Saved about £100 (including the £30 from bungled Sainsburys).

Remember don't sign up from MSE Switching Site after comparing - go directly to whichever site it recommends after clearing any cookies so they don't get even more commission.

Flow was the best for me - but yours maybe different.

Email MSE using the info below and make sure you cancel your DD for Sainsburys otherwise you could get stung and have to wait for a refund.

    Q: I don't want to stay with Sainsbury's Energy

Due to the problems and delays in switching, Sainsbury's Energy has agreed to waive the exit fees attached to the tariff if you want to switch away. To do so, just call Sainsbury's Energy on 0800 294 0193 or email MSECollectiveswitch@sainsburysenergy.com with the subject line MSE Cancellation. If you decide to email, please include your account details and a brief description of the issue that you have experienced.

A great end to a shambolic offering.

Totally agree with the below - this whole thing is a massive JOKE.

I can't get any response from Sainsbury energy in over a month. Had one acknowledgement of a complaint raised but then nothing else. They don't repond to any mails. Now my previous supplier EON is getting annoyed because they haven't had the correct meter readings are harassing me for payment.

I mean you guys on MSE post these great deals, then the company can't handle the demand and then screw us all over and leave us in a mess. Enjoy your commission the rest of us are wasting our time trying to sort this big mess out.

So MSE got their £2.7million from this promotion from the 90,000 customers who signed up.

I wonder exactly how Sainsbury Energy/Britsh Gas works... perhaps an employee could anonymously post here.

I'd imagine British Gas have an old IBM PC running Windows 95 in the corner of an old stock room that has a sticker on it saying 'Sainsburys Energy'.

Everytime an email comes into Outlook 95 an over stressed 'employee' :money:clicks 'print', then immediately tears off the dot matrix print out and puts it into the industrial shredding machine that is next to the PC.

Occasionally to break the monotomy, he randomly copies and pastes a reply to a customer that bears no resemblance to the question or query asked.

I should imagine he gets regularly appraised and gets at least 'above average' for performance...
