    Hi leolady

I'm sorry we didn't phone back as promised. On the bill in question, what readings do we go to and from? Are these readings accurate or estimated? As Ivf asks, have previous bills been estimated? If so, you might have received a catch up bill now we've an actual reading. This can give a false impression of how much you're using at any one time.

The reading of 04003 for 13 February 15 won't have been used as it's lower than previous readings. I'd expect an estimated reading to have been used instead. If I'm right, we'll be happy to re-bill the account to your reading.

Thought I'd mention something else that might be useful. As you're only using a couple of units of electricity each night, I'd check your tariff. Are you on an Economy 7 tariff? Sometimes, where not much electricity is used at night, it might be better to be on a single rate tariff. This is because Economy 7 has higher day rates than single rate products and then a lower night rate. To benefit, a significant amount of electricity needs to be used during the cheaper off peak times. The actual amount depends on the region and tariff. No need to change the meter. All we do is add the day and night usage together and charge at single rate prices. If this helps, you can switch to a single rate tariff through our website. You just need to register.

As payments are coming from your Pension Credit, it sounds like you're on the Fuel Direct scheme. This is run through the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP). As such, you won't be able to have a Monthly Direct Debit. Once it ends, you'll be able to set one up. Again, this can be done online.

With the Warm Home Discount, this year's scheme is now open if you need to apply. If, though, your payment comes directly from the Government under the Core Group you won't need to apply. In this case, you should've received a letter from the DWP to let you know. It's only customers under the Broader Group who need to apply.

As you've had Warm Home Discount in the past, you might be eligible for assistance under the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) too. This is a Government led scheme that aims to cut usage by providing help with energy saving stuff like loft and cavity wall insulation. Might be worth asking the question.

    Hope this is useful leolady.

    Hi Malc
    Thank you for your reply.

    a) When I phoned Eon they gave me the information that the 4th Nov 2014 reading was an actual reading not an estimate or C reading.
    This was 5809.

b)The reading on approx 6th May 2015 (date of "to" usage on bill) is an actual reading not an estimate or C reading.
    This was 6443

Subtracting a) from b) gives a total of 634 kw hours used between 4th November 2014 and 6th May 2015.

There was a further actual reading done by Eon on the 22nd May 2015 - not an estimate or a C reading.
This was 6476 which equates to approx 2 kw hours used per night.

Please explain how the present bill can show the night usage as 2440 kw hours usage since Feb 2015.

Eon hold my account details so why cannot they give me an explanation or a least be bothered to phone me.

The Economy 7 meter was supposedly removed by Eon a few years ago.

    Thanks for providing that information.

However it is still unclear, as you have not stated the read used on the bill in Feb 2015. Now disregarding any information given on the phone, just go by your bills only. What were the reads on the bills for:
    Nov 2014
    Feb 2015
    May 2015

If, and this is an IF, the read on the Nov bill was 5809 (A), and the read on the May bill was 6443 (A), then there is 0 possibility that your electricity use could show as 2440 kWh.

Now, again this is a big IF, but if your total 6 month use was 634 units, over a winter period more was probably used before Feb, so it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that between Feb and May your use could have been around 220 units, and if you were reading gas, when converting to kWh from a gas meter of m3 which has a conversion factor of ~11, this would be a lot closer to 2440 kWh.

So my question is this, are you sure you aren't reading the gas charges by mistake?

    Hi Ivf
No possibility that I am reading gas charges because my gas supplier is British Gas with a meter sited yards away from the electricity meter and they bill me for gas only.

It is only Eon that supplies my electricity and only has access to the electricity meter.

Hopefully the Eon meter reader has not been reading the gas meter by mistake.

Just switched to EON after awful experience at EE.

Switch was pretty efficient - Seem to have used the readings I provided.

    Like the online system.

    Good so far!

    Hi Ivf
Thank you for trying to solve this issue.
I have just found an earlier bill which also confirms the night usage.

This is an actual reading by Eon taken approx 10th Feb 2014 and is 5171.
.The actual reading by Eon approx 6th May 2015 is 6443

So in a period of 15 months my usage was only 1272 kwh.

I have already given the Nov 14 reading + the May 6th reading.

If you read Malc's reply (post no 322) he confirms that Eon ignored the customer reading taken on 13th Feb 2015.

EDIT: post removed, information since provided

2nd EDIT: Actually no, the information is still not provided.

Right you have a bill, from May 2015, saying your usage at night is 2440 kWh. Forget normal use, forget what's been ignored and used, forget everything else.

From THAT bill and that bill only, please list from the meter read section ALL meter reads used, the 'To' and 'From' dates and the reads used. You clearly have the bill, this is what has caused this frustration.

    To Ivf
Bill now in front of me.
    Period 13th Feb 15 to 6th May 15

    Meter no ... previous 33867 C present 35184 A rate Day kwh 1317

    " previous 04003 C present 06443 A rate Night kwh 2440

When I received this bill I phoned Eon and queried the night usage and was told they had not used the night reading of 04003 because it was obviously inaccurate and lower than previous reads. A reading as low as 04003 would have been from 2012/2013ish.

If they have used this low reading to reach a consumption of 2440 kwh it means they are trying to charge me again for the electricity I have paid for on previous bills.

Okay, now under the meter readings you should see a section marked 'Previous charges' and a credit on charges from previous bills. Do you see this credit?

    hi Ivf
The next heading under Meter readings is The details sub heading Electricity charges followed by E.ON EnergyPlan
followed by date 13 Feb 15 to 6 May 15.
Underneath this is the Day usage and cost then the Night usage (2440 kwh) and cost + vat.

On the reverse side of the bill is a heading Before this statement.£292.77 CR which is the credit balance from last statement - 13 Feb 2015.
This is followed bypayments and adjustments .

Three payments totalling £247.20 were made between Feb and April monthly direct to Eon + they had Payments under the Gov. Warm Home Scheme resulting in the large CR balance.

As a result of this Eon sent me a refund of £200. I fully expected the most recent bill to be in credit but with the 2440 figure for night usage Eon say I owe money.
