It turns out when I swapped MSE set the direct debit at £10 for gas and £10 for elect!
I assumed the direct debit would continue for the same amount as I was paying British Gas.
EOn are blaming MSE for this but they have now set the DD for £120 a month.
I can't believe I am the only person this has happened to.
I am very annoyed that this has happened. So much for switching being simple.
Even if a house was empty surely the bill would be more than £10 for gas and £10 for elect.
I hold no brief for E.oN nor do I think that the Company always communicates with its customers as well as it could. That said, I also switched to E.oN via the MSE CEC and some days later got a welcome e-mail from them which stated very clearly the tariff I would be on with details of my monthly payment.
Quote: Thanks for choosing our E.ON Energy Fixed 1 Year v14 - we're delighted to have you with us.
Your electricity and gas prices are fixed until 5 February 2016. So you know exactly what your prices are, and you know they won't go up.
Please see the key information for your tariff below.
We've agreed that your initial fixed monthly Direct Debit will be:
£58.50
We'll be in touch to let you know when the first payment is due.
This may change depending on your energy usage. Unquote
When I switched E.oN tariffs recently via another collective switch, E.oN sent out paper confirmation of my new contract. I am not sure that they could have done more.
As the person who pays the bills, I always make sure that I know what is likely to to be taken out of my account, and I check that the correct payment has gone through. I am not sure that MSE or E.oN are completely to blame for the unfortunate situation that you find yourself in.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Well. I blame whoever set the DD at 10 quid a month - and that wasn't me. Maybe I should have picked it up earlier but there you go. The whole thing's been a shambles.0

Hi Middle Sister
I'm sorry you haven't enjoyed your first experience since coming over to us. Thought I'd pop on with a bit of information that might be of interest. On switching, our quote and recommended payments are based on the information we're given at the time. The actual amount will depend on the tariff prices asked for and past usage. Ideally, the annual usage should be given as kWh rather than a monetary amount. As Hengus says, we'll confirm details of the tariff and payments separately.
I suspect the new amount we've put in place will include the outstanding balance. Once this has been cleared, payments can be dropped to cover the ongoing usage only. One way of keeping an eye on things is through an online tool called the Direct Debit Manager. This gives you more control over the monthly payments including, once the balance has gone, letting you change the amount. Comes in handy should circumstances change.
Provided the account is billed up to the latest meter readings, payments can be changed by up to 20 per cent up or down. By up to 5 per cent up or down without readings. Before confirming the new amount, we'll let you know by how much we anticipate the account will be in credit/debit by the time of the annual review if payments are changed but usage doesn't alter accordingly.
Hope this is of interest Middle Sister.

I gave readings when asked. I think gas came across before elect but not once was I asked what I thought my DD payment should be. When I queried the huge bill eOn said British Gas couldn't give them my payment details - data protection. Rubbish.0

When you switched through the CEC, I assume that you gave some indication of your past supplier, and spend or usage? The site would then calculate the best deal with a total annual projected spend. It is from this information that E.oN will have calculated your monthly payment. The companies do not exchange customer usage data as the only part of your contract that is fixed is the term, standing charges, unit price per kWh less any discounts. The amount that you actually pay depends on how much energy you consume. I suspect that the problem was that you may not have entered the correct spend or usage data on the CEC comparison site. For example, I base all my comparisons on 10400 kWhs of gas and 2400 kWhs of electricity consumed per year. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I suspect that you may have entered monthly usage figures for consumption as annual in error - I did that once when using another comparison website and initially couldn't understand why it ws saying I could save £1000+ by switching !!:rotfl:0 -
Hi-de-hi E.On rep Malc,
I switched through MSe CEC in Dec 14, but as yet haven't received the £30 switching rebate cheque. Could you chase this for me please. I am guessing you will need some info etc so if you can let me know, that would be lovely.
Cheers Neil0 -

You wouldn't get the £30 cashback from E.ON, that would come directly from MSE.
Have a read of the 'Cashback' section:

Morning Neil.
Ivf's spot on. Cashback on the MSE Collective Tariff isn't something we pay. This will come through MSE's Cheap Energy Club. Might be an idea to have a word with Dan from MSE. He seems to look after this type of query. His Profile is at the following link.

Sorry I can't help on this occasion Neil.

I switched to EON as part of the MSE Cheap Energy Club last December. I used actual usage figures from the previous year and was quoted £111 per month for gas and electricity.
EON have now emailed me to tell me my monthly DD will go up to £160 per month. I realise that usage over the winter may have been a bit higher than last year but not by nearly 50%. I am now paying more than I was with my previous supplier.
I have been with EON for 4 months (since December 2014) during the coldest months of the year, and my account is in credit so I don't understand why my payments need to rise given that usage should decrease significantly over the next few months.
I note that on the EON website it states that DD payments won't increase unless I agree to the change. I would be interested to know if this is correct as the EON email suggests that my DD payments will increase irrespective of whether I consent or not.0
