Was this anything to do with green Deal? I doubt it.
I am sure you must be very relieved that your dads home will remain expensive to heat though.0 -

I think this is a little unfair.
OK might not have much to do with the green deal but insulating a loft does not need to cost £250.
The longer something takes to payback the less of a benefit it is. GD I think might (as it has not really started properly yet) be guilty of doing.0 -
If Geoffky's dad is a pensioner then he will get support under ECO for his loft insulation. Unfortunately, in Geoffky's rush to rubbish the Green Deal, he has chosen the worst of all outcomes, do nothing.
Whilst it remains possible for vulnerable and low income families to get help with these basics, I am constantly surprised when people expect to be given these things for free. Even people who are not in these target groups expect someone else to pick up the bill. Yet if I rolled up to their door and told them they could have it for free, would they listen? Door slammed right in the face I'll bet.0 -

You are correct there
But you dont he decided to do nothing. He might have gone to B&Q and got the buy 1 get 2 free on insulation and did the whole thing for £60
But sometimes it payes to be in the right place at the right time.
example;
Sitting pondering over the lost heat in my airing cupboard I measured the heat off the foam insulated tank. I then went and looked at the cost of tank jackets and wickes happened to be selling them at a reduced rate under some energy deal. So I bought two. After rapping my tank up I was able to reduce by a third the time needed to heat my hot water. Total cost £10 savings ?? not sure but around 700 hours per year. However the point is this offer is now not on.... Why?
I happened to be luck with this and the edf deal I have 600 mm of loft Insulation as they were doing a deal on the rolls for £1
Why are these deals only available for those who happen to be in the right place at the right time.
Also I think its a good example of the GD...
If the expected savings are £100 then this is the yearly cost would be £100 payback 2.5 years + 6.5% loan cost. Or am I mistaken here?0 -
I knew if I posted long enough I would get something right.:T0

Its a forum Dave, here is one opinion :
- I'd be terrified if you "rolled up to their door" and talked your way into .. ..
- one of my family's homes, old or young, particularly old
- you would not leave until you wore them down to the point of exhaustion and a contract was signed
- I've no doubt you would offer to rev~up their walking frame and drive them through a wet cold night to the bank
- to ensure a cash deposit, as well as a signature was obtained before leaving the property
Even I would give up the will to live, pay you your ransom to get my home & life back, then immediately cancel the contract and call my solicitor and trading standards within minutes of gaining my freedom. This whole thread stinks of 'direct pressure selling'. Selling that would happen to anyone you came into contact with, no matter how vulnerable they were, you would I'm sure be able to justify the sale and pocket the 'pieces of silver'.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. As you said, this is your view and you are entitled to it.
If its an attempt to get the only dissenting view off "your" forum, it won't work.0 -

- no, that's not true, its a forum populated by posters & readers, who 'owns' it is a distraction
- you give good information, over the top and evangelical, but please continue to post that information
- its a democracy 'of sorts' that's why you and I post our opinions
- no one wants you to leave, certainly not myself
Thus far you have made no attempt to get the unwary into private messaging and no hidden sales URL's in your contact info so behaviour is within the forum rules.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Just so that you know, I am going to be working as an independent advisor, so not tied to a company like British gas, mark group etc. As such I will be working for joe bloggs to provide them with good advice. I will earn the majority of my fees directly from my customers. I intend to put both sides of the story to anyone I deal with. As I have stated in earlier posts, I don't think the Green Deal is perfect, but for many it will prove to be the only way they will be able to get work completed.
The only way I will survive in this business is by getting people to recommend my services. I can't afford (nor would I desire to) brow beat someone into taking out a Green Deal. I would have no reason to anyway, as my fee will be regardless of whether someone goes ahead with a plan.0 -

I think this is the crux of this and any offers.
Its only going to be good as the advise given. If the advise is wrong and from what i have seen on epc's (esp. in older properties) this seems to be the case.
The incentive is money. Just like part P, where you have great tradesman and really dodgy ones. This is going to hinge of the advice given. Solar, new boilers to get a theoretical 30% saving should be some of the last recommendations.
There should be no one in this day and age going door to door especially where you can end up locked in an expensive loan for the next x years.
I also dont think the green deal should be the only way to go. I dont know if this will be the case but I would hate to see subed insulation disappear from the shops.0
