    hi everyone,

sorry to bump up an old-ish thread but though its better to ask questions here rather than start a new thread,

recently been to have my eyes checked and i need glasses, long distances & driving, ive never had glasses before.
ive noticed glasses direct have a £30 voucher so i could get 2 pairs for £19

does anyone know when it says free pair is that of the exact same pair? so i`ll recieve 2 of whatever i choose?
    you cant mix and match?

    thanks in advance claire.

    Hello there,

The 2nd pair can be any other frame up to the same value (as long as one is £49 or more). You can pick a different use (ie, one pair distance, one pair reading) or even use different prescriptions for both pairs so you can give one to someone else.

The lenses in the 2nd free pair are our standard lenses, and you would need to pay extra if you wanted any lens upgrades or varifocals/bifocals in the second pair.

    Hope that helps.
    :)

If you're not sure about the writing on the prescription, you can select to email, fax or send your prescription to us after placing the order and we'll enter it for you.

Of course, you can either email it to ask@glassesdirect.co.uk and ask someone to give you a call when they receive it (so put your phone number on too) or fax it to 08450 13 18 18 and again, put your phone number on the fax and ask someone to give you a call. Even better, if you've already placed the order put your postcode & order number on it.

    Hope that helps.

Unfortunately I have to share a bad experience with glasses direct.

After seeing a promotion advertised in the weekly email my husband ordered some glasses without any problems. He recommended them to me when I needed new glasses and things have not gone smoothly.

First after placing my order the frame that I originally ordered was only available for one pair of glasses. It transpires that the other frame was broken when assembling the lens so I had to choose another frame.

However when these glasses arrived only one of them had my prescription. The other had my husbands prescription which was completely different. I asked glasses direct to collect however they ended up sending me a pre paid return slip with a disclaimer that if the glasses are lost in the post they accept no liability. As such I felt like I had no choice but to pay extra for recorded delivery, and I made my feelings known that being out of pocket for their mistake was completely unacceptable - fair enough if I didn't like the frames but they screwed up!

The mistake was rectified and I have received the correct replacement, however I also had a phone call left on my answer machine whilst I was out stating that I would also receive a 50% refund for the inconvenience.

At this point although the experience wasn't great -- mistakes happen -- I was entirely satisfied with how they had handled the situation. However it has now been 3 weeks since that phone call and no refund has been forthcoming. I've sent them 3 emails now and none of them have been responded to despite their website stating 24 hours - the oldest email is over a week old. None of my communication has been rude.

Shame they did this as they probably would have had many more orders from my family as 2 of my daughters also wear glasses. Just sharing my experience so other mse's can bear in mind.

I had a pair a couple of years ago from Glasses Direct, I chose them as I used to work in the office next to them when they started out in Malmesbury. Fab, fitted really well and as I have a really small face (seriously I used to get kids ones!) I was really impressed.
Ordered some more a couple of weeks ago from the 'petite' range but they arrived & were too big for me, emailed, got a reply with a returns label and sent them back and as there were no smaller frames I chose a refund on this occasion, refund showed in 3 days (as per card processing time frames) and I'd happily order again if they had some to fit me!

And at under £40 for 2 pairs and Quidco cash back too you can't go wrong!

  • I've got a pair of reading glasses which I got for less than £10 a year ago using a money-off voucher from this site. They're my spare pair which I use at home, and I didn't get the coating and went for the cheapest frames, so they don't look as good as my main, more expensive pair (which I paid a fortune for before joining MSE!), but I use them every day and they're just as comfortable and work just as well.

When I need to replace my main pair, I'd happily use Glasses Direct :)

If anyone is looking to purchase designer glasses I would suggest trying http://www.pretavoir.co.uk I got my eyes tested yesterday at Scrivens (in my opinion a rather pricey opticians - they wanted to charge me 240 for a pair of Givenchy pretty basic frames) so I had a look online for a similiar pair - I tried Glasses Direct and although they have a great offer of 2 for 1 on designer glasses I was still looking at paying 150 for a pair - not even Givenchy..anyway after lots of searching I came across Pretavoir and gave them a call as I was a little bit scared of purchasing online and that my prescription would not be correct, I can not fault them at all, the lady I spoke to was so friendly and helpful and answered all of my questions and I managed to pick up a pair of Chanel glasses with reflective coating and anti scratch coating all for under 150! that's a massive saving when you compare it to the 240 I was going to pay for a similiar pair..

Hope this helps someone who is looking for a pair of designer glasses at a discounted price, I spent hours debating whether to buy online but i'm glad I did as it's saved me lots of money..

Lots of other designer brand and designer sunglasses plus lots of good reviews :)
