My Mum used to swear by Mellow Bird's coffee (not sure if that is still available, or if it had any coffee in it lol!)
My Gran buys that and then makes coffee with about 2 grains of Mellow Birds and half a cup of milk. If you are really unlucky, she uses a tinned evaporated milk instead of normal milk as a "treat".
I like coffee strong with just a splash of milk in, so it's a real struggle to drink Grans coffeeHere I go again on my own....0 -
Personally, I love Taylor's Rich Italian blend and (my absolutely favourite) Havana Gold. I like fairly strong but not bitter coffees, and before I found those two I switched around alot and got bored pretty frequently.
Now I buy a £5 can of coffee at Costco. It's 1.4kgs, compared to £2 or £2.50 for 226g it works out really cheaply and I think it tastes nearly as good - very slightly bitter, but not bad. I still buy Taylor's when I get a chance and sometimes I blend the two together.0 -

:rotfl: I have an aunty that does that, but with Poundland powdered variety!!
Every time she makes me a cup, she always looks in disapprovingly and says "OOh, are you sure thats not too strong?" AAaaaarghh!!It's not a light at the end of the tunnel, it's a man with a torch and more jobs

I've recently had to switch to decaff, cos I just can't sleep! I've been pleasantly suprised at the Asda and Tesco's own gold label decaff, both are ok and much kinder on the purse than the big namesLaughter is the sun

I went a bit mad recently and purchased some Taste The Difference coffee from sainsbury's - it was gorgeous! But then I had a £2 coupon and didn't mind spending the extra pennies on it. Now that it's used up and I ran out I bought some Bird's at my local CostCutters. It does alright.
Good point about spending over £1.00 on a cup of coffee in a cafe - where's the logic in buying the cheapo stuff for home? I think I'll extend my repertoire a bit and pay a bit more for something decent next time.
Does anybody like Lavazza coffee? It makes me gag it's so bitter and restaurants seem to think they are doing you a favour when it's presented at the end of a meal. Yuk yuk yuk give me Bird's over Lavazza any day!0 -
I'm a Douwe Egberts girl - but admittedly, I don't buy much coffee (if we drink half a dozen cups a week, we're doing well!
) so I don't mind paying slightly more for a decent tasting cup - plus, we keep an eye out for the offers, so very rarely pay full price.

A coffee update:- The Herbaholic household have switched coffee brands, after reading all the posts in this thread I got DH to agree to at least try some other brands, we found a 200g jar of Carte Noir in Asda for £3.00 on special offer. DH was reluctant to try but he now thinks its nice, and has agreed to try other brands when we've finished this jar.
RESULT! Now I just have to work on beans and tomato sauce lol! Thanks to everyone that offered their experiences/suggestions.NSD Challenge 2010:Jul 12/12; Jun 21/14 :T; May : 6/6
