Don't forget the truth is an absolute defence to any claim of defamation. You'd be defending their claim vigorously.
  • What sort of thing did you say in the review? If you said "THIS COMPANY IS **** *** *** ****!! WE SHOULD GO STAB THEM!!!!" then I can see where they're coming from :P

I doubt you did this, but you haven't told us what you said so it's hard to know where you stand legally.

What sort of legal action did they threaten?
Hi. I'm a Board Guide on the Gaming, Consumer Rights, Ebay and Praise/Vent boards. I volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly. MSE is very quick to remove posts "for investigation" when threatened with legal action. Sadly the post usually remains deleted.
  • Thanks everyone! I know now never to use the review website again and I'm sure I have agreed to their T&C to disclose my details with that the company. As for the company, I must have gone a bit far by giving them 1 star rating which is ' terrible' as I believe I was getting a terrible service.

And, it seems that in the future, I'd be wary if the company only gets glowing reviews, as this may suggest they are very ruthless to those who says otherwise. Thanks everyone!

If they all did that i would have to be typing this on someone elses computer and wearing someone elses clothes.

I call a crap company a crap company. If they take my posts down from other websites i just create my own website and slag them off even more.

Then post links for others to comment and see my side of the story which gets the hits up there.

When your site gets higher up the google search than their it gets their goat :)

They are not ruthless, You just happen to use a site sponsored by them or who lack the correct legal info to tell them to sod off.

Do they advertise on that site? Or have they offered you pull this review and we will £££ ???

Many owners of smaller websites lack the funds and/or stomach to stand up to these bullies and as a result consumers continue to get shafted.

I'd be more annoyed with the review site, which you SHOULD name and shame.

Someone I know left a review for a hotel who totally screwed their wedding up. She paid for a served buffet for 150 people, but as they got to the last 3 tables (so 30 people short), there was literally NO food left, and they refused to provide any more unless the family paid up there and then, and were very aggressive. Oh, on top of that, the bridal suite that they'd reserved a year ago was then not available, so they were given just a double!

Needless to say, the father of the bride was FURIOUS!

A very factual review was written, but sadly the review site removed it, leaving only 5* reviews, which oddly seemed to be written by the owner!

Edit: the same website (Trip Advisor) now seems to allow both good and bad reviews of this hotel - just looked it up, and they have indeed been given lots of 1* reviews!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I would say to the Op.

Please, please name the review website.

This will NOT incur any legal action against you, however it will make others aware of what happens via that review website and how it can treat reviewers like this.
