If you do not drive at, or close to the speed limit, WHEN IT IS SAFE TO DO SO, would you care explain why?
Not everybodys life is centred around car ownership. Some people simply own cars as transport. They don't watch Top Gear or care what a turbo is. 45mph in a 60 is a irritation to some, but is fast enough. Speed limits are a maximum safe speed. They are not obligatory. The roads are a shared space where some chose to travel at less than the maximum speed.

Not really. I imagine that some people in bleak economic times need to eek out their fuel by doing this.

A bit presumptuous to assume they would want to do this, much in the way they would want to be eating value beans instead of Heinz.

Slow drivers are irritating but really the problem lies with people who just can't cope with it. A good driver will adapt to the slow driver and simply deal with it in a calm and rational manner. However, there are numerous tits who will drive disproportionately aggressively when faced with this minor inconvenience. This is usually evidenced with tailgating, swerving and dangerous overtaking manoeuvres.

The bad driving in this situation lies with the person who is reacting to the slow driver. It may be convenient for our aggressor to blame the person for provoking them but it won't be an acceptable defence in law when they kill the occupants of an oncoming car.

If anyone cannot cope with slow drivers to the point of being constantly angry at the wheel (and I know people like this), they should give up their licence. Period.

Whilst I generally agree with you I am not entirely sure that some slow drivers actually understand why driving slowly is a fail on the driving test.

It is a little disingenuous to pin the blame for all the problems they cause on those who would like to continue driving to the standard they achieved to pass their test.

I am not defending, or condoning aggressive driving in any way, but just trying to understand why some drivers feel it is acceptable to cause undue delay to the majority of sensible drivers. IYSWIM

If that's how you want to drive that's up to you, but see my post above

They should be pitied really, they are usually middle aged miserable looking blokes, who probaly get it in the ear hole from the dragon 24/7 and this performance is possibly the only bit of power or pleasure in their lives...;)
This fits the road owning dictators much better than other, more cautious drivers.

I don't drive like that. I enjoy driving at speed but don't expect to. 45 in a 60 isn't much fun but is acceptable. As above, the roads are a shared space.

Would that be the road owning dictators who drive much faster than when they passed their test or the road owning dictators who drive much slower than when they passed their test?

Both are a source of annoyance and frustration to considerate drivers.

The slower drivers are not intentionally dictating the speed.

I suspect your right they are not intentionally dictating others speed they are just driving without considering the effect they are having on others, so about as inconsiderate as those that drive faster than the speed limit then.

Think that is option 3, don't you?

But it may be their optimum speed for the road. You may feel more comfortable driving 10mph quicker. They may not, because their skill/experience level is lower than yours. Let them drive at the speed that suits them, and when you get your chance, you can make a safe overtake and move to your optimum speed.

    Simple.
Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.

    Fair enough, option 1 then.
