slow drivers

Right, just explain this scenario to me as it is completely baffling.
I, and several other posters, drive at, or near, 60mph in a 60 mph zone when there is no reason whatsoever to do otherwise.
We are maintaining an appropriate speed, something you would fail on in a test if you didn't.
We are driving completly within the law, indeed, it would be perfectly acceptable.
Yet, for some bizarre reason that is just baffling me, to do this, to you and your ilk, is wrong!
To argue it like you are proves it.
Yet absolutely nobody ever, or any road reg or advisory, has ever told you to drive significantly slower for no good reason but you are correct!!!!
It may even be an offence!
Why??????????????!!!!:eek:0 -

On the other hand, you have clearly missed the point that, at any time you're following someone doing less than the limit, it could well be you who has wrongly assessed what's safe, not them.
The first moment that you do anything that could be perceived, by them, as aggressive / pushy or cause them to alter their speed or direction - such as overtaking at a point where they feel compelled to slow down for you to complete the overtake - then it's you who becomes the "inconsiderate" driver.
The world does not revolve around you.
Strange isn't how people seem to assume I am a bad driver just because I asked a simple question?
If answering it makes you that uncomfortable that you have to lash out at the person asking it then perhaps you need to ask yourself why?
... and just for the record care to point out where I have posted that I do anything other than give a wry smile when stuck in the queue of traffic behind someone who doesn't want to drive to the same standard that they attained to pass their test?0 -
You must have me confused with somebody else. I haven't advocated speeding.
I simply stated that if it is sunny then I'll wear my shades and adjust my sun visor to block glare and continue driving at, or just below, 60mph in a 60mph zone.
Now, why the heck you and other posters cannot get your head around what is essentially just common sense is completely beyond me.
However, it doesn't surprise me as you and the other posters are in that bracket of about the 30% of drivers I see each day who should never be allowed out on the road without an adult to supervise them.
Don't know about 30% - a few weeks ago was driving along the usual route and wound up in tailback following some doddering idiot in a Suzuki Alto.
Bearning in mind this was a 60mph road, said fool was crawling along at 25mph and showed a even when we were on the few long-straights. Overtaking was a risk too, since said driver displayed an inability to drive in a straight line.
When we did finally reach what could be considered a safe spot to pass (road widened, good view ahead) everyone overtook, a few drivers sounding their horns. I passed her too - though didn't sound my horn - and from a VERY quick glance was able to ascertain that she was too busy gossiping and gesticulating to a passenger to pay much attention to the road and, apparently, very much else that was occurring. :mad:0 -
Talking about people doing 40 in NSL roads... I remember being in Wales once, going along a country road which was only hairpin bends and you could -just- fit two cars past each other. Plus it was tiddling it down. We were going 30-40 as, well, going round those corners at 60 you'd be straight into Farmer Dave's crops. We were almost hit on one bend by one driver who thought the NSL meant you -had- to go 60 and he must've drifted around like something off a movie.
I've seen a load of these roads and just because they're marked as NSL doesn't mean you have to go NSL. Whoever has judged some of them must have had a lobotomy.
That said, if there was a nice NSL road in good conditions where 60 is appropriate and someone was going 40, I'd be all two finger saluting0 -
I would seriously consider reporting someone unable to drive in a straight line, especially if they were very much under the speed limit.
There's a good chance they could be unfit through drink/drugs or medical condition.
If they are not then a few times of the local Police popping round to investigate might just wake them up to the fact they are downright dangerous.Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.
If you don't like my opinion feel free to respond with your own.0 -
@ martinthebandit, a lot of poor drivers do not like their deficiencies being pointed out.
This applies equally to fast, and slow drivers.
I have found that very many slow drivers are also very poor drivers all-round.
The 'monospeeder' syndrome where they continue to drive at 40 through villages (completely negating the 'safe', or "limit not a target" defences) is a classic example of this. Not bothering to indicate, poor lane discipline and general poor upkeep of their vehicles (missing brake lights etc) are also traits I have found to be far more likely on a 'waddling' vehicle than one that is keeping up with the flow of traffic.
These traits aren't always present by any means, but they are very common in my experience.
As a point of record, I have never once noticed any forum poster who defends 40mph drivers, condemn those who do 40 in a 30. Not one.
I think that says a lot really.0 -

Agreed - my own, personal, experience of the frequent monospeeder's I encounter is exactly as you describe (lack of indication etc). Not all of them, but certainly a lot of them.
My opinion remains that they either lack spatial awareness or are simply oblivious to the fact that they are NOT the only car on the road at that particular moment.
Then there are the idiots who insist on trying to send a text message/make a call on their mobile.....:mad:0 -
and just so we are clear the driving test is a minimum standard if, after passing it you find you cannot maintain that standard ..........Oh I feel your pain, sigh indeed.0
