slow drivers

Absolutely, slow driving can be an instant fail.
Yet once some people get their licence they do what they were never told to do seemingly because they know better.
Just like speeders.0 -
Yes, but you must recognise that one may have to stop on a slip road if it is unsafe to merge at speed.
The main carriageway has priority, not the slip road user.
I see daily slip road users just zoom out causing collisions or near misses.
They think they have the priority.
I have never had to stop on a slip road before. I mean obviously yes in a traffic jam. But not on a fast moving motorway. How would you ever get going again without causing all the other drivers to slam their brakes on or swerve? It's not like you can accelerate from 0 - 70 in a split second is it.0 -
I would slow down and try to stop someone overtaking if they had been tailgating and flashing their lights. Not because I am trying to police the road but because they have annoyed me and their frustration gives me pleasure. Selfish but true.
Then that's just as bad as being the one doing the tailgating.....
it contributes just as much to
Its worth considering that the reason people might flash their lights is because a lot of drivers that do 45 in a NSL don't even realise that they have people behind them.
Another reason is that despite going past several areas you could have pulled over slightly you didn't....
Or it might simply be that the last person they were behind has annoyed them....
Eitherway, the best thing for road safety is to just let them pass...
If they are hell bent on it then it endangers you as well as other road users.0 -
I'm talking about a speed that they feel comfortable with (their 85th percentile speed),
At risk of being pedantic, why are the pair of you discussing the 85th %ile speed in relation to an individual? It is an observation from a sample of drivers/vehicles. By definition, in a sample of 1 driver, all drivers drive at the 100th percentile speed!
I'd also suggest that anyone that can get as worked up as some of you have arguing with strangers on the internet about driving must be regularly biting chunks out of the steering wheel when actually on the road. Does anyone drive better when they're annoyed?0 -

Then you are obviously a luckymannn.
That is essentially what I said, you would not merge onto a very busy main carriageway from a slip road at 60mph as it would be unsafe to do so, the main carriageway may only be crawling at 10mph.
60mph into a 10mph will not be safe!
Ideally you would join the main carriageway at speed but it is not always possible.
Next time you are on a slip road you will see road markings seperating the slip road to the main carriageway and they are in varying forms but, depending on the slip road, you will always see broken white lines indicating give way.
They are there for a reason. However, on a clear run then there is obviously no need to give way as there would be nothing to give way to.0 -
Slow drivers I can just about live with - it's the ones who drive at 40 everywhere - like they're completely incapable of driving at any other speed.
I run into these types VERY frequently - National Speed Limit road? They drive at 40. Reach a 30mph area on same road? They drive at 40. :mad:0 -

I get more annoyed by drivers that hurtle around at inappropriate speeds in total ignorance of the laws of physics.
That's coming from someone who races cars as a hobby.0
